Commercial Description:
Only available bottled (not bottle conditioned).
This was the first beer brewed for the Duchy Originals organic range. The beer is brewed using a rare breed of organic barley - Plumage Archer - harvested from The Prince’s Home Farm at Highgrove.
Duchy Originals Organic Ale has opted for a traditional, British barley variety Plumage Archer to give the beer a rich depth of flavour.
The organic hops for this delicious beer are also British, First Gold, a new dwarf hop variety grown in Kent and Worcestershire. The beer is brewed to Duchy Originals' recipe.
The Duchy Originals Organic Ale is a ruby-coloured flavour-packed beer which combines the rich caramel flavours of the barley malt with the signature ripe orange nuance of the First Gold hop.

This ale poured a cloudy dark orange colour with a nice frothy off-white head. Scents include citrus, spice and some dough. First taste was a little over carbonated and a little thin.Strong hop flavour with a bitter finish. Hops continue through the palate a little too much.

500 mL bottle from the LCBO, served cool in a small pilsner glass. AP20/07.

App.: Medium-deep amber, decent off-white head, clear. Aroma: Light wood, earth and nuttiness; hints of toffee and caramel, a bit of fruit – apples, peaches; breadcrust, hints of treacle. Palate: Medium body, soft carbonation with a few sharp bubbles. Flav.: Much like the nose, feels a bit thin somehow; moderate bitterness and mild acidity clash with a touch of weird sweetness.

Maybe pesticides and industrial farming practices really do taste good...

Bottle from Whole Foods on Old Milton. Okay, I am new at this rating of beer, but this Ale tastes & looks good. Letting it warm up a bit is the best thing I could do for it. Tastes a bit nutty (?), weak head, but good aroma. I like this one and will purchase again.

Bottle from LCBO. I will grab an armload of this while it is still so wonderfully fresh. The hops - or something - remind me a little of the slightly ’wild’ flavour of Algonquin Country Lager from many years ago. Just a very fresh natural tasting Ale with a good infusion of expressive character hops.

Nice amber body with good carbonation and an average off-white foamy head. Decent malty/hoppy aroma with fresh herbal/grassy notes. Fresh hoppy taste that carries malty and nutty hints. It ends with a good bitter finish. Good average ESB.

A deep orange/amber beer, with a creamy froathy head. Aroma of grass, lite malts, and bread. Aroma slightly reminds me of wychwoods scarecrow beer, so I’m assuming the the bread and grass aroma comes from the Plumage Archer barley. Flavors of malts, and hops, with some bready character. The palat has some decent carbonation, but a watery dry finish wich leaves somethign to be desired. Not a bad beer, but certainely could be better.

Generous head and lacing. Fresh, The hophead dose of a double IPA in a 5% beer. Much higher IBU tasting than a typical English bitter or IPA style. Hop leaf taste, grassy, mildly astringent, some malt and bitterness in a long aftertaste. Offset was beery cheese aroma.
