Commercial Description:
Only available bottled (not bottle conditioned).
This was the first beer brewed for the Duchy Originals organic range. The beer is brewed using a rare breed of organic barley - Plumage Archer - harvested from The Prince’s Home Farm at Highgrove.
Duchy Originals Organic Ale has opted for a traditional, British barley variety Plumage Archer to give the beer a rich depth of flavour.
The organic hops for this delicious beer are also British, First Gold, a new dwarf hop variety grown in Kent and Worcestershire. The beer is brewed to Duchy Originals' recipe.
The Duchy Originals Organic Ale is a ruby-coloured flavour-packed beer which combines the rich caramel flavours of the barley malt with the signature ripe orange nuance of the First Gold hop.

(500ml bottle) Pours a deep clear amber body with a medium-sized beige head. Aroma of caramel, fruit, and florals. Flavor of caramel malt and mild floral hops. Good carbonation.

16.9oz. Bottle: Aroma of alcohol, coriander, and spices. Sweet scent. Poured a copper/amber color with a small off-white head that diminished quickly. Decent lacing. Cloudy. Sparkling. Flavor is moderately sweet and not bitter. Tastes of caramel, apples, and oak. Lightly dry metallic finish. No flavor to the finish at all. Average carbonation. Light to medium body. Thin. Watery. Overall, pretty crappy.

500ml bottle (bb.30.09.07). Golden brown in colour. Low level foam. Light hoppy aroma. Spicy flavour offset by ripe oranges, almost like grass. Refreshing. Fizzy mouthfeel (13.01.2007).

Pours pretty nicely to golden yellowish color, and a hoppy nose. I got a grapefruit citrus flavor on the palate, and a decent sized head. Not a bad beer, but at $4+, it’s not particularly worth getting again, especially when many other English beers can be had for a similar price (and organic too, with St. Peter’s available).

Bottle pours dark amber with a short offwhite head that leaves some light lace. Aromas of caramel malts, a touch of toffee, and some toasted malts with light citrus. Flavor is toffee, caramel, and toasted malts and some bready notes before a slight bitter citrus finish. Watery on the palate without much carbonation.

Golden yellow color. Fizzy white head. Slightly hoppy flavor with mild floral notes. Some citric and malt tastes. Nothing spectacular, but perhaps worth a try once..

This beer pours a deep amber with a tall white head leaving lot’s of lacing down the sides. This beer is very simple, for lack of better words... Taste like an ordinary esb but not quite bitter enough. I thought this would have a better flavor to it, but it is not a very good ale. Mind you it is better than the bmc’s but not by much! Cheers!

Pour is clear copper color with a fast fading but tight bubbled tan head...smell is loaded with lots of bready caramel malts and faint notes of grass as well...taste is bready and grassy...somewhat metallic toward the finish...
