Commercial Description:
Only available bottled (not bottle conditioned).
This was the first beer brewed for the Duchy Originals organic range. The beer is brewed using a rare breed of organic barley - Plumage Archer - harvested from The Prince’s Home Farm at Highgrove.
Duchy Originals Organic Ale has opted for a traditional, British barley variety Plumage Archer to give the beer a rich depth of flavour.
The organic hops for this delicious beer are also British, First Gold, a new dwarf hop variety grown in Kent and Worcestershire. The beer is brewed to Duchy Originals' recipe.
The Duchy Originals Organic Ale is a ruby-coloured flavour-packed beer which combines the rich caramel flavours of the barley malt with the signature ripe orange nuance of the First Gold hop.

Pours dark reddish amber with a fully receding off-white head. Aroma is light bready and malty, toffee, and caramel. Taste has mild grassy hoppiness with light caramel, tofeee, and an ending note of herbal bitterness. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with light lively carbonation.

Malty smell and taste. Carbonated mouth feel. It’s best quality is it’s crispness. Smooth, not bad, but not great.

Poured with a creamy tan head over a mid-hazed, coppery/orange body. Aroma finds soapy florals over dusty grains. Sharp sourness emerges later with an earthen/herbal tilt. A smooth palate carries an unassuming bittersweet flavor to a sweet & sour finish with light vegetal notes. Not bad... simply nothing much.

Bottled from Sainsburys. Clear amber body, slight fruity nose, nice malt lingering finish.

Had this at a beer and cheese tasting. It was matched with Quicke’s Goat Cheddar - Devon. Virtually zero head. Some hop aroma, but mostly faint malt. Nothing really stands out about this beer. It did have a nice fresh taste to it, though.

Whole Foods, Baton Rouge, La., 500 bottle. Light copper pour, thin, sticky white head with a wee bit of lacing. Fresh, but faint, grassy aroma, hints of Christmas spices. Decent subtle bitterness, faint fruitness, some nuttiness. Finishes with a buttery note. Nothing really jumps out and grabs you in the flavor, but it is clean and smooth. Good session possibilities. Palate, slightly thin, but not watery.

Medium caramel profile. Light floral hopping in the traditional English style. Somewhat bland and timidly bittered. A tad watery as well. Not bad, but I wished for a braver hand at the hops scoop.

Nice amber body with a light head. Malts, wheat, oats dominate the aroma. Very refreshing body, good malts but very thin. Again, a thin ending...
