Commercial Description:
Only available bottled (not bottle conditioned).
This was the first beer brewed for the Duchy Originals organic range. The beer is brewed using a rare breed of organic barley - Plumage Archer - harvested from The Prince’s Home Farm at Highgrove.
Duchy Originals Organic Ale has opted for a traditional, British barley variety Plumage Archer to give the beer a rich depth of flavour.
The organic hops for this delicious beer are also British, First Gold, a new dwarf hop variety grown in Kent and Worcestershire. The beer is brewed to Duchy Originals' recipe.
The Duchy Originals Organic Ale is a ruby-coloured flavour-packed beer which combines the rich caramel flavours of the barley malt with the signature ripe orange nuance of the First Gold hop.

50cl bottle at home. cloudy orange, small offwhite head. aroma is dominatd by bitterhops , caramel and toffee. faint smoke or burned plastic. not very appetizing. flavor is caramelly, herbal, bitterhoppy, faint sawdust. much better than aroma, a little too bittersweet for my taste though.

A very nice flowery hops aroma. Tan with a light brown head. Hops are much lighter in flavor - suprisingly mild but with a full body. A very nice bitter.

Bottle. Bronze beer with a nice off-white head. Toffee/malt aroma with some grass. Nice malt/caramel flavor with earthy/citrus/grassy hops. Good balance. Medium bodied. Easy drinking. Lingering balanced flavor that lasts.

Aroma of caramel malts and some hops. Bit fruity. Clear, amber coloured with a lasting, off-white head. Taste is sweet, caramelly, hoppy, and some herbal stuff. Good balance. Hopbitter finish.

Sample at AleFest Dayton: This beer is a pale clear amber color with a medium off-white head with decent retention. Thin, spotty lacing. Bready malt aroma. Medium-bodied with earthy, slightly stale malt flavor, along with some caramel. The finish is malty and metallic, with a sweet aftertaste. Not very enjoyable.

Very cloudy orange brown with a creamy long-lasting medium tan head. Aroma of buttery caramel. Oups, I’m in trouble. Diacetyl? Taste of buttery pop-corn and unpleasant caramel. Yep this one is ruined. The best-before is two months ago. It’s impossible that a beer can be so god awful just two months after the best-before date. Unacceptable. Dutchy Organic Ale… I guess putrefaction is organic…

Big hop/malt nose, copper, a finger of creamy white head, some pretty lace. Fresh hops taste, then a really fine malt underpinning. Medium bodied, well balanced, fresh, very hoppy mouthfeel. A fine one!

500ml bottle (bb.30.09.07). Golden brown in colour. Low level foam. Light hoppy aroma. Spicy flavour offset by ripe oranges, almost like grass. Refreshing. Fizzy mouthfeel (13.01.2007).
