Commercial Description:
Only available bottled (not bottle conditioned).
This was the first beer brewed for the Duchy Originals organic range. The beer is brewed using a rare breed of organic barley - Plumage Archer - harvested from The Prince’s Home Farm at Highgrove.
Duchy Originals Organic Ale has opted for a traditional, British barley variety Plumage Archer to give the beer a rich depth of flavour.
The organic hops for this delicious beer are also British, First Gold, a new dwarf hop variety grown in Kent and Worcestershire. The beer is brewed to Duchy Originals' recipe.
The Duchy Originals Organic Ale is a ruby-coloured flavour-packed beer which combines the rich caramel flavours of the barley malt with the signature ripe orange nuance of the First Gold hop.

It would have been hard for this to have had a much better appearance - good gold orange PA color, very classy bottle and label. I didn’t care for the aroma all that much though - kinda stinkyeasty in the bitter vein. Beer is generally dry, with some toasted grain, muted caramel and medium bittering. Medium to session weight. Finishes off long and lightly bitter. Fairly clean drinking, but not foremost among my beloved English bitters.

Bottle. Soapy, vegetal aroma. Up front english hop bite transforms to a slightly doughy, dry finish. Unfortunately, the far finish becomes increasingly soapy, to the point where 2 or 3 minutes after a sip you are dying for something to clean out your mouth, which pretty much ruins an otherwise decently average beer.

Hazy dark amber color with a thin white head. Aroma of caramel malt. Somewhat thin flavor of caramel and toffee with some light hops.

[399-20070705] 500mL. Beery sweet vegetable yeast aroma with muted malt. Clear, amber brown body with a big fluffy off-white head. Malty grain bread flavour with a bit of toasted corn. Medium body is a bit watery and smooth. Fine blending but not a favourite.

Bottle from Sainsburys. Pale copper coloured with a decent off-white head. Earthy malt aroma with a whiff of grassy hops. Flavour was malty, with a touch of orange peel and a decent bitter finish. Ok.

Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry and MDS, my bottle courtesy of my buddy who brought it back from England. Pleasant grainy aroma. Dark orange, rusty copper, small white head - looks really good. Neat taste: malt, odd grain like quality - like drinking 12 Grain bread. Nice sweetness to round it out. Bottle tasted surprisingly fresh after a long trip and a few months in storage. A neat lighter ale!

Bottle: Copper pour with a consistnt white head. Smells of old boiled vegetables, light sweet caramel back, and lots of metallic character. Somewhat thin in body, with a grassy flavor, along with old vegetables and an underlying sweet malt touch. The finish is full of metallic bitterness. Not that good.

Smells very nice. Chewy caramel. A nice light flavor. A bit of floral aspects but also stays on the teeth for awhile. Maybe lingers just a bit too long.
