Commercial Description:
Only available bottled (not bottle conditioned).
This was the first beer brewed for the Duchy Originals organic range. The beer is brewed using a rare breed of organic barley - Plumage Archer - harvested from The Prince’s Home Farm at Highgrove.
Duchy Originals Organic Ale has opted for a traditional, British barley variety Plumage Archer to give the beer a rich depth of flavour.
The organic hops for this delicious beer are also British, First Gold, a new dwarf hop variety grown in Kent and Worcestershire. The beer is brewed to Duchy Originals' recipe.
The Duchy Originals Organic Ale is a ruby-coloured flavour-packed beer which combines the rich caramel flavours of the barley malt with the signature ripe orange nuance of the First Gold hop.

Smells very nice. Chewy caramel. A nice light flavor. A bit of floral aspects but also stays on the teeth for awhile. Maybe lingers just a bit too long.

Bottle from the LCBO. Nice brilliant copper colour with a good sized white head. The aroma is decent, with some solid maltiness, and notes of caramel and orange peel. Body is good for the style, with soft carbonation. The flavour is pleasant and well balanced, with malt and grain notes off the top, some orange-candy sweetness in the middle, and a grassy hoppiness to finish. A very nice ale.

Clear amber-tinted copper coloured body with a thin (one centimetre) slightly off-white head. Decent looking, nothing special though. Aroma of fruit, raisins, pit fruits, caramel, malt and a touch of hops. Medium-bodied; Malty flavour up front with an odd cereal taste in the middle along with a nutty finish. Aftertaste shows caramel, pit fruits and an overwhelmingly bitter malt taste - no hops at all. Overall, a decent beer - not amazing by any means, but not horrible either. I sampled this 500 mL bottle purchased from the LCBO (Summerhill) in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on 11-October-2009, sampled at home on the Eastern Shore of Virginia on 24-October-2009.

Bottle pours dark amber with a short offwhite head that leaves some light lace. Aromas of caramel malts, a touch of toffee, and some toasted malts with light citrus. Flavor is toffee, caramel, and toasted malts and some bready notes before a slight bitter citrus finish. Watery on the palate without much carbonation.

Bottle at The Anchor, Wichita, KS. Pours a muddy caramel with a leafy, earthy malt aroma. Lemon sweetened tea with a malty finish. Decent mouthfeel. Not bad, but it looks like melted poo.

Bottle. Sweet malty caramel with an unusual grainy spiciness. Not much hop presence. one-sided wihtout depth.

500 mL bottle from Whole Foods Market in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a medium amber color with a large white creamy head. Good retention and lacing. Fruity and slightly bitter hops in the aroma with some toasted grain notes. Taste is toasted malts with tea and fruity hop notes. Medium bodied. Quite nice.

A lone interesting bottle in a cooler at a wine store near Virginia Square. Thanks to Joe’s sharp eyesight I didn’t leave empty handed. Clear brown - I’d say it looked like iced tea - actually, it was a nice color, very visually appealing to me for some reason, it was like a contemplative color. Aroma was earthy with floral hops and light toffee. Mild malty flavor with almond and warm hops and some anise at the end.
