Commercial Description:
Only available bottled (not bottle conditioned).
This was the first beer brewed for the Duchy Originals organic range. The beer is brewed using a rare breed of organic barley - Plumage Archer - harvested from The Prince’s Home Farm at Highgrove.
Duchy Originals Organic Ale has opted for a traditional, British barley variety Plumage Archer to give the beer a rich depth of flavour.
The organic hops for this delicious beer are also British, First Gold, a new dwarf hop variety grown in Kent and Worcestershire. The beer is brewed to Duchy Originals' recipe.
The Duchy Originals Organic Ale is a ruby-coloured flavour-packed beer which combines the rich caramel flavours of the barley malt with the signature ripe orange nuance of the First Gold hop.

Clear amber with a thin head. Sticky English hop aroma, mild, a bit spicy with citrus hints. Buttery caramel notes also. Nice big smooth palate. Toffee and mellow, slightly woody hop flavor. Perfect balancing bitterness. Lingering hop finish. Nice ale.

This looks like a decent ESB, with a copper-colored body, clear, and a white head. The aroma is quite malty, with hints of caramel and yet it is slightly bitter. Decently full-nosed, but not overwhelmingly so. The flavor isn’t very complex, and not too bitter. Pretty smooth, drinkable and light.

Not my favorite example of the style. Malt and English hops, but not Marris Otter, not Fuggles or Goldings. More floral than bitter in the taste, although moderate bitter finish. Overall sense is a beautiful beer, more watery than bitter. Beautiful deep amber, clear, with bright head that vanishes quickly. Nose of malts and floral hops. Taste of malt and floral hops, but without intensity, moderate bitter finish. Thin in the mouth.

Bottled. Beer is clear, medium-brown. Head is frothy, off-white, smaller than average. Mostly lasting
The aroma: Well, it sure smells British. ;) It’s malty with light notes of toasted grain, caramel; Hoppy with moderate notes of dusty, sharpish resin/pine, herbal note of weak mint; Yeasty with moderate note of dank basement; Light miscellaneous note of sweet, rotting, wooden planks.
The flavor is lightly sweet, lightly bitter with a short, lightly sweet, trace acidic finish. Watery.
Body is light, texture is watery and the carbonation is softer than average.

Bottle.

Pours amber with a limited head. Restrained aroma, grassy with a bit of apple. The flavor is grainy, bready, metallic, and disappointing. None of the warm malts of the better examples of the style, and not much going on here.

Robe ambrés légèrement voilée surmontée d’une mince mousse blanche qui s’estompe. Arômes de malt, de houblon herbacé et de levures. Saveurs de fruits et de houblon citronné.
