Commercial Description:
Only available bottled (not bottle conditioned).
This was the first beer brewed for the Duchy Originals organic range. The beer is brewed using a rare breed of organic barley - Plumage Archer - harvested from The Prince’s Home Farm at Highgrove.
Duchy Originals Organic Ale has opted for a traditional, British barley variety Plumage Archer to give the beer a rich depth of flavour.
The organic hops for this delicious beer are also British, First Gold, a new dwarf hop variety grown in Kent and Worcestershire. The beer is brewed to Duchy Originals' recipe.
The Duchy Originals Organic Ale is a ruby-coloured flavour-packed beer which combines the rich caramel flavours of the barley malt with the signature ripe orange nuance of the First Gold hop.

Amber colour, white head. Honeyish, fresh aroma. Spicy flavour with roasted malts. Honey? Some underlying sourness. Hoppy dry finish. Bitter. Overall good, bitter ale.

Average sub-par session beer. Bottle and label had me in for sophisticated, but this was bland walnuts. A few fruit and hop notes, but nothing really to go, hmmm. I guess it warmed up nice though, but still...no dogs allowed

Not bad, was surprised it was Wychwood. This lacks the distinctive (but not particularly pleasant) shared characteristics of most other Wychwood products. Dark amber. Aroma of nuts, malt, fruit, oak. Good balanced malt/hop flavour and finish. Brown bottle - could the Wychwood character I’ve noticed be due to the clear bottles/storage/sunlight issues rather than the yeast character?

This is a nice, solid, and very satisfying & refreshing English bitter/ESB. It is amber with a medium, dense light tan head that slowly dissipates to a ring and wispy top. The aroma is rich, toasty grain, toffee, flowery hops with a pine element, and toasted bread. The taste is a solid bitter/beer character, hard to pin down otherwise in the way I like bitter. It has elements of toffee, earth/leaves, both very light, in a body that is mostly toasty malty grain and piney hops, with a clean, crips, smooth bitterness taking over after a second, followed by a nice lightly toasted grain finish. It is crisp and clean, with great bittersweet balance, and a fruity hint. It’s a little less dry and bitter than Black Sheep Ale, but also a tad less clean and aromatic.

Aroma: touch of flowers and crystal malt giving way to a slightly easter egg chocolate. Appearance: dark amber red with a tiny pointless head. Flavour: crystal malt with a touch of orange. Palate: thin with decent carbonation. Finishes a touch nutty.

Enjoyed this beer poured from a 500 mL bottle; mine was labeled "English Ale," but assuming this beer is the same. The aroma was quite good, sweet floral hops, with piney and citrus hints too. Some caramel malt, and some fruity scents too of pear and orange. It poured a cloudy, orange-amber color with a thin white head that was quickly gone. The taste was a unique with mild bitterness, some sour aspects and a hearty wheatiness; it really did taste extra fresh and organic. The beer was wet with only light carbonation and a slightly dry finish; it had a grainy, natural taste and texture. When I was done the aftertaste and feeling in my mouth was almost as if I had just eaten a pear.

Orangey amber in color with a thick collar of off-white foam that settles to a nice, thin film that appears to show proper carbonation. Aroma is definitely english though incredibly diminished. Fruity malt stands above the hops or malt complexity. Flavor is softly toffee-like in malt with just a touch of hop that is integrated nicely, a hint of sourness in the background, saltiness, but too much carbonation and overly dry, saltine cracker malt distracts from the overall palate.
