Wulfstan (509), California, USA Dec 21, 2007 Updated: Feb 5, 2008This is a nice, solid, and very satisfying & refreshing English bitter/ESB. It is amber with a medium, dense light tan head that slowly dissipates to a ring and wispy top. The aroma is rich, toasty grain, toffee, flowery hops with a pine element, and toasted bread. The taste is a solid bitter/beer character, hard to pin down otherwise in the way I like bitter. It has elements of toffee, earth/leaves, both very light, in a body that is mostly toasty malty grain and piney hops, with a clean, crips, smooth bitterness taking over after a second, followed by a nice lightly toasted grain finish. It is crisp and clean, with great bittersweet balance, and a fruity hint. It’s a little less dry and bitter than Black Sheep Ale, but also a tad less clean and aromatic. bembelembe (150), Zagreb, Croatia Sep 29, 2008 Very good organic beer. Roasted malt with very herbal flavor mixed with bitter hoppy taste. Traces of fruit (orange), caramel aroma and hints of nutmeg. Bittery herbal aftertaste. Amber-copper color. Medium carbonated. shrubber85 (2833), Wallhalben, Germany Aug 5, 2004 A very nice flowery hops aroma. Tan with a light brown head. Hops are much lighter in flavor - suprisingly mild but with a full body. A very nice bitter. Whelk (124), Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England Jun 20, 2007 Bottle--known as Dutchy Originals Organic English Ale in the US, it pours a deep coopery-ruby with a creamy off-white head. Aroma is earthy, light citrus fruit and malt. Flavor is caramel, light orange/fruity, and is quite smooth. Sigmund (2197), Hafrsfjord, Norway Aug 28, 2004 (500 ml bottle, bought in Denmark). Amber colour, moderate head. Lovely hoppy aroma, hints of heather, tobacco and spices. Flavour is nutty and biscuity, a hint of toffee but not really sweet, good bitterness which lingers in the aftertaste. Very nice. thehinge (244), Wilmington, Delaware, USA Jan 21, 2009 Murky orange pour. Thin white head. Grassy, hoppy aroma. Front end has hints of spices with undertone of oranges. Nice and crisp on the palate. Aftertaste is just subtly bitter. aknod (16), USA Jun 17, 2007 worth trying. solid, balanced and is not heavy on the palate or your gut. It froths nicely without the overburdening head that never ceases. One characteristic is its clean tasting properties which draws attention to the care taken to produce the beverage. Brownish in color, almost an amber hue. Enjoy! beervana (781), Libertyville, Illinois, USA Jun 2, 2006 (04.23.06) One pint, 0.9 oz brown bottle from Whole Foods, Deerfield, IL. Poured clear amber with small white head. Good carbonation. Fresh fruity/malty aroma. Medium bodied ale that starts dry with light toasted malt flavor. Finished dry with light hop bitterness. Mild delicate malt flavor. Well-balanced, this is a delicious drinkable ale. Hard to believe that this very good beer was brewed by Wychwood as I tried three of their other beers and found them to be wanting.
