Commercial Description:
Only available bottled (not bottle conditioned).
This was the first beer brewed for the Duchy Originals organic range. The beer is brewed using a rare breed of organic barley - Plumage Archer - harvested from The Prince’s Home Farm at Highgrove.
Duchy Originals Organic Ale has opted for a traditional, British barley variety Plumage Archer to give the beer a rich depth of flavour.
The organic hops for this delicious beer are also British, First Gold, a new dwarf hop variety grown in Kent and Worcestershire. The beer is brewed to Duchy Originals' recipe.
The Duchy Originals Organic Ale is a ruby-coloured flavour-packed beer which combines the rich caramel flavours of the barley malt with the signature ripe orange nuance of the First Gold hop.

Quite nice aroma... immediately of bananas and malt, but also hints of hoppy spice and earth. Pours a great clear, dark red/amber/brown color with a one inch frothy off-white head that is quite long-lasting. Flavor is smooth with noticeable hop bitterness as well as malt sweetness. A tiny bit of chocolate in there at the beginning, with a lot of earthy flavor as well. Labeled: "Duchy Originals Organic English Ale" in America. 1 pt. 0.9 oz. bottle.

Dark copper with a thick sticky off white foam. Toasty malt aroma, spicy, grassy hops. Taste is fruity, cherries, grapes, toffee, toasted malt.

500 ml bottle. Pours a murky copper with creamy white head. Light citrus hops in the nose with grass and caramel. Flavour has nice hop presence, fairly sweet, with hit of orange zest and long grassy finish. Decent body; light, fine carbonation. Enjoyable.

Amber apperance. No head. Quite soft and velvety. Soft, medium bitter finish. A bit metallic flavour, otherwise a good beer.

50 cL bottle. Labeled as English Ale, rather than just ale. It’s got that nifty English malt aroma that just doesn’t pop up on this side of the pond. Hazy light amber color with a white head that left. Thin to medium bodied. Nearly creamy carbonation. The flavor is spicey caramel with balancing hop. Tingles the mouth. The finish is almost dry, residual malt notes, and spicy/floral hop. Really very tasty.

It would have been hard for this to have had a much better appearance - good gold orange PA color, very classy bottle and label. I didn’t care for the aroma all that much though - kinda stinkyeasty in the bitter vein. Beer is generally dry, with some toasted grain, muted caramel and medium bittering. Medium to session weight. Finishes off long and lightly bitter. Fairly clean drinking, but not foremost among my beloved English bitters.

Big hop/malt nose, copper, a finger of creamy white head, some pretty lace. Fresh hops taste, then a really fine malt underpinning. Medium bodied, well balanced, fresh, very hoppy mouthfeel. A fine one!

Aroma of caramel malts and some hops. Bit fruity. Clear, amber coloured with a lasting, off-white head. Taste is sweet, caramelly, hoppy, and some herbal stuff. Good balance. Hopbitter finish.
