Commercial Description:
Only available bottled (not bottle conditioned).
This was the first beer brewed for the Duchy Originals organic range. The beer is brewed using a rare breed of organic barley - Plumage Archer - harvested from The Prince’s Home Farm at Highgrove.
Duchy Originals Organic Ale has opted for a traditional, British barley variety Plumage Archer to give the beer a rich depth of flavour.
The organic hops for this delicious beer are also British, First Gold, a new dwarf hop variety grown in Kent and Worcestershire. The beer is brewed to Duchy Originals' recipe.
The Duchy Originals Organic Ale is a ruby-coloured flavour-packed beer which combines the rich caramel flavours of the barley malt with the signature ripe orange nuance of the First Gold hop.

Bottle 500 ml (LCBO)
Amber in colour with golden hints, good well sited crown on top.
Good, clean fresh hoppy nose well supported by malty character below. Aroma set up simplistic but in this case worked well. (6.75/10)
Medium bodied ale with clear yet short burst of green bitters, woody with acidic oak notes. Tangy finish with soapy hop blend. This ale has some character but missing true soul of greatness.

Light clear brown color, short off-white head. Aroma of english hop, some caramel malt. Taste is little sweet and caramel malty, quite bitter. Bitter and dry palate.

Bottle from BevMo La Mesa. Pours a medium copper color. Aroam is sweet with some acidity. It also has a little bit of an aroma like those orange chewy peanut candies. Some roasted malts too. Nice bitter malty character with that earthy English thing going on. Finish is a little hoppy and bitter. Not bad.

Hey, I just noticed it’s a Wychwood product without a wanky label. They can do it when they want to. Copper colour with a close, robust white head. Nice balance between maltiness and bitterness. However there is quite a pronounced taste of alcohol in the finish which should not happen at this abv. Rather spoils what would otherwise be a very good beer.

A lone interesting bottle in a cooler at a wine store near Virginia Square. Thanks to Joe’s sharp eyesight I didn’t leave empty handed. Clear brown - I’d say it looked like iced tea - actually, it was a nice color, very visually appealing to me for some reason, it was like a contemplative color. Aroma was earthy with floral hops and light toffee. Mild malty flavor with almond and warm hops and some anise at the end.

Whole Foods, Baton Rouge, La., 500 bottle. Light copper pour, thin, sticky white head with a wee bit of lacing. Fresh, but faint, grassy aroma, hints of Christmas spices. Decent subtle bitterness, faint fruitness, some nuttiness. Finishes with a buttery note. Nothing really jumps out and grabs you in the flavor, but it is clean and smooth. Good session possibilities. Palate, slightly thin, but not watery.

I had no idea this was a Wychwood beer until I read the fine print. Wow. Anyway, mine’s labeled "English Ale", but I’m pretty sure this is the same beer. Mine poured a ruddy, rusty orage with a wet, bumpy head. The aroma is very airy, but bittersweet, almost sour, musty, and honey-like. The same impression carries to the flavors ... slightly sour, almost citrusy, but like a blood orange, rindy, and while short of puckery, a bit tart. (#2707, 2/15/2007)

A hazy dark amber ale with a thin off white head. Light herbal hops and malt in aroma, faint. In mouth, good crisp ale with good resinous hops, light caramel, and light mineral notes, herbaceous qualities. Nice ale. Bought at LCBO. BB 5/12/08.
