Commercial Description:
Only available bottled (not bottle conditioned).
This was the first beer brewed for the Duchy Originals organic range. The beer is brewed using a rare breed of organic barley - Plumage Archer - harvested from The Prince’s Home Farm at Highgrove.
Duchy Originals Organic Ale has opted for a traditional, British barley variety Plumage Archer to give the beer a rich depth of flavour.
The organic hops for this delicious beer are also British, First Gold, a new dwarf hop variety grown in Kent and Worcestershire. The beer is brewed to Duchy Originals' recipe.
The Duchy Originals Organic Ale is a ruby-coloured flavour-packed beer which combines the rich caramel flavours of the barley malt with the signature ripe orange nuance of the First Gold hop.

Bottle. Hazy light orange body with a small white head. The aroma is moderately chalky, minerals, somewhat fruity (oranges), and with some dirty bread notes. Dark, bready flavour that is fairly straightforward. Clean finish.

Not my favorite example of the style. Malt and English hops, but not Marris Otter, not Fuggles or Goldings. More floral than bitter in the taste, although moderate bitter finish. Overall sense is a beautiful beer, more watery than bitter. Beautiful deep amber, clear, with bright head that vanishes quickly. Nose of malts and floral hops. Taste of malt and floral hops, but without intensity, moderate bitter finish. Thin in the mouth.

(bottle) hazy brown. Malt aroma. Flavor is slightly sweetish malt, some mustiness, with only a little hops in the finish.

Duchy is an ok beer, at least for an organic. It is not a traditional bitter, and has a significant hop flavor and aroma. Dry and bitter.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a small sized head of foamy fine to medium sized off-white colored bubbles that was mostly lasting and left behind a transparent typically carbonated light orange brown colored body and a fair lacing. The aroma was musty and dirty smelling. The mouth feel was tingly at the start and strongly tingly at the finish. The flavor contained notes of malt mild hops sweet and crisp. An OK brew just nothing special.

Bottle. Sweet malty caramel with an unusual grainy spiciness. Not much hop presence. one-sided wihtout depth.

(on bottle)Rusty orange, steady, white head. Fresh hoppy aroma, creamy mouth feel; quite big actually. Round flavours of the malts, hints of chestnuts and wet wood. The finish was mild at first, then turned dry and bitter - in a hazel/hop kind of way.
