This lacks the distinctive (but not particularly pleasant) shared characteristics of most other Wychwood products. Dark amber. Aroma of nuts, malt, fruit, oak. Good balanced malt/hop flavour and finish. Brown bottle - could the Wychwood character I’ve noticed be due to the clear bottles/storage/sunlight issues rather than the yeast character? The aroma is a mild nutty malt with some earthy bitterness around the edges. The flavor is a caramel malt that features some bitter spiciness. It finishes on a nice herbal bitter note. A bit thin overall, but quite drinkable.

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Dec 1, 2005 Orangey amber in color with a thick collar of off-white foam that settles to a nice, thin film that appears to show proper carbonation. Aroma is definitely english though incredibly diminished. Fruity malt stands above the hops or malt complexity. Flavor is softly toffee-like in malt with just a touch of hop that is integrated nicely, a hint of sourness in the background, saltiness, but too much carbonation and overly dry, saltine cracker malt distracts from the overall palate. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 12, 2006 Medium caramel profile. Light floral hopping in the traditional English style. Somewhat bland and timidly bittered. A tad watery as well. Not bad, but I wished for a braver hand at the hops scoop. nick76 (2676), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Oct 30, 2006 The aroma is sweet with caramel, yeast, and grassy hops. The appearance is orange/gold with a small head that is not unlike many of the style. The flavor is sour and bitter with malt and nuts. The palate is thin but again not a bad thing for this style. Overall it’s drinkable but I would have liked it better if it was not sour. Otje (668), Leiden, Netherlands

| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | May 3, 2007 (500 ml bottle) So-so flavor, pretty nice mouthfeel...Pours clear medium-dark copper with four fingers of frothy biscuit head. Aroma is kind of a confusion of malt sweetness, sour, perfumy hops, bread. Mouthfeel quite smooth, feels pretty full for a bitter, but a little fizzy in finish. Flavor is kind of a mirror of the aroma only a little weaker. Light sourness also present in taste, maybe a little metallic as well. Has some bitterness but it is low-key for this style. This is about as good as our local Gritty’s Best Bitter. Pass. STEPHENDR (478), California, USA
