Commercial Description:
Celebrate Halloween with the latest brew straight from Jim Wagner's cauldron: 31, our new Spiced Munich Dunkel. This German-style amber lager tricks you with its smooth, malty taste and moderate 5.1% abv, then treats your palate with a spicy finish of cinnamon and nutmeg.

Special one off firkin with ’’a generous amount of maple added’’ according to Wagner. Big time maple aroma. Nice amber color with no head. Slightly sweet withe a good maple taste. Some chocolate flavors come through too. I need to try a regular 31 to compare it to, but it was a good firkin.

On tap in Baltimore, poured a light ruby color with a slight head, with mild lacing. Nice sweet aroma and really good fruity malt flavor, with a hint of spice. Really enjoyed this one.

Growler. Poured a mostly clear amber color with an off-white head. The aroma was of light spice, milk chocolate and sweet fruit. The flavor was malty with a mild sweetness. Light spice on the semi-dry finish.

This is a good oktoberfest beer. Its actually a Munich Dunkel, the first of this kind I have ever had. Since this is my first I don’t really have much to compare it to, but as far as overall quality it lives up to DuClaw’s great reputation. Near no head, amber color, not really heavy, clean finish, and the spices are definitely tasted after the maltyness sets in.

Draft at Fell’s Point. Poured amber color with no head. Aroma has hints of cinnamon and nutmeg. It’s quite malty with Toffee and Caramel, but that’s quickly overpowered by the spices. Nothing outstanding.

Growler Sampled at YEHA. Light hoppy aroma. Sweet, lightly bitter taste, light berry flavor and spices. Light hops, a little weak. Thin body.

On tap at Bowie. Poured out a bright, clear amber color, with a minimal white head. Aromas are of Munich malts, with cinnamon and nutmeg galore. A little over spiced if you ask me. Flavors are dominated by cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, but there is some malty notes as well. Medium mouthfeel, decent body. Smooth, but a little too much spice for my liking.
