Special one off firkin with ’’a generous amount of maple added’’ according to Wagner. Big time maple aroma. Nice amber color with no head. Slightly sweet withe a good maple taste. Some chocolate flavors come through too. I need to try a regular 31 to compare it to, but it was a good firkin.

20090207 Tap at Bel Air location. Red amber color with small creamy head. Interesting use of spice makes this savory but with a light body -- not heavy or sweet like many spiced or pumpkin brews tend to be. Nice beer.

Draft at Arundel Mills. Pours a nice deep copper with an off white head. Sweet bready and malty aroma. Flavor of munich malts, maple, and caramel with nice subtle accents of cinnamon and nutmeg. Clean finish. Good solid beer here.

Growler, from Bowie location. Pours a very bright, clear, ruby-tinged orange color; significant, light tan head with good retention and solid lacing. Plenty of doughiness and soft bready notes in the aroma, coupled to a warm autumn / pumpkin spicing; a slight bit of red fruit coming through as well. Medium mouthfeel: some caramel and dried fruit and dough at the front, but without any stickiness; nice spice presence, showing plenty of warm cinnamon and nutmeg without falling into any of the rough, sugary potholes of the typical pumpkin beer; very well placed spicing and a pleasant German lager underneath. Medium, cinnamon and doughy finish; minimal sugar. A very pleasant autumn beer.

On tap @ Bowie location-Poured a deep copper color w/a slight off white head & good lacing. Roasted malt aroma. Roasted malt flavor w/ traces bread dough. Had a definite spiced flavor, I’d say cinnamon & nutmeg describe it perfectly. Long, malty, spicy finish, Enjoyable.

On tap at Fell’s Point (2/13/09): Pours a transparent amber mahogany with a stringy-lacing white head. Aroma of lightly sweet toasty caramel and nutmeg spice. Starts with good fullness and sweet caramel toffee notes well balanced with holiday spices before a clean bittersweet finish. A pretty good spiced beer.
