Commercial Description:
Released for the winter season, this hearty stout starts off with an espresso aroma, followed by a smooth roasted malt flavor. We age this beer for over 2 months to allow the alcohol to mellow and the flavors to balance. Despite the beers alcohol content (8.0%) and intense flavor, this beer remains smooth and very drinkable.

Sampled at the DC/MD/VA/WV/PA Ratebeer Gathering 11/20/04. Blacker than John Oates’ moustache with a brown head. Roasty coffee nose. Taste has notes of chocolate, coffee, roasted malts and a good dose of hops. Very full, round and creamy on the palate. Awesome stout!

Very dark with a tan head. Smooth coffee flavor with some dark cocoa, a hint of malt, and a bit of something smokey. Very laid back.

Roasted coffee beans logically team up with sweet molasses...Black grapes appear underneath the smooth and creamy feel and point towards a leafy post-taste...Not a very talkative Impy, but a laid back, rich and confident number which begs for large quantities...Good thing they bottle this in 1-liter bottles!!...Thanks Guzzler67!!...

Sweet chocolate and coffee in the nose. Opaque black with dense dark brown head that recedes to thick cover and lasts nicley. Sweet chocolate balances roasted malts with a touch of mint (?) towards the end. Light fruitiness appears as it warms. Dry finish. Full, smooth body. Creamy with decently engaging carbonation. Simple, flavourful and self-assured. A very good example of the style. Bottle (enjoyed with MartinT and Rastacouere). Thanks Guzzler67.

Black body. Huge sticky and rocky tan head, a very impressive sight which makes it even scarier. Sweet chocolate aroma, light smoked notes, vanilla beans, creamy. Much drier than expected in mouth. Charcoal like roasted finish. Mild dark fruits, slightly acidic hops. Smooth and velvety full body which got quite a decent effervescence for a hand-bottled 1liter swingtop. No worries Larry, this was a treat, thanks!

This imperial stout pours with a black body topped by a thin head with very little lacing. The aroma is slightly sweet and full of mocha notes with a malty background and a touch of roastiness. The flavor is slightly sweet yet bitter and roasty with a nice coffee note and a slight hint of licorice. Full bodied, smooth and slightly dry with little carbonation.

Very good Imp Stout, thanks Scraff!. Pours black with a thick brown head. Aroma is as advertised, like a strong coffee, very roasted. The flavor has a bitter bite to it. Not a hint of alcohol. It reminds me of the first year Dayton’s Thirsty Dog Brewed Siberian night. Creamy mouthfeel, bitter finish.

Again, many thanks to TAR for the sample! Pours an oily, completely opaque black with a thin coating of dark tan head. Subtle chocolate chip cookie dough nose with underlying oak and whiskey. Viscous palate holds a nice malty sweetness, plenty of fresh hoppy balance, and a smooth, roasty, dry whiskey oak finish. Hides its alcohol well and has very nice complexity, making it enjoyable and easy to drink. A great imperial!
