Commercial Description:
Released for the winter season, this hearty stout starts off with an espresso aroma, followed by a smooth roasted malt flavor. We age this beer for over 2 months to allow the alcohol to mellow and the flavors to balance. Despite the beers alcohol content (8.0%) and intense flavor, this beer remains smooth and very drinkable.

Draft at Arundal Mills location. Thin off white head. Roast and coffee aroma. Very bitter initial taste. Subsides quickly. Nutty aftertaste. A bit of the Guiness "tang". Almost black in color. Nice job, but I think it needs to age a bit more. Bought a growler to drink a few months down the road. I still have a growler from 2006 that I want to try.

Draft at Fell’s Point. Pours black with a small light brown head. The aroma is coffee, slightly bitter. Coffee and roasted malt dominates, but the taste and finish are very smooth. It is thinner than the stouts I usually like, but this was really good.

Fantastic. An excellent stout in every sense of the word. Had this one aged a year. Extreme roast complex. All dry and sweet but no fruity complexity as you would expect in an imperial. Chocolate baking powder and strong coffee. Very potent malts and hops are well in balance.

This was a strange beer. Pours a lovely Dark shade of black with fluffy white head. Rich malty, nutty, and fruits (rotten) aroma. This has to be the most sour impy stout I have ever tasted... Oh well :(

Courtesy of Degarth. This bottle was shared with Degarth and Quake1028 and was most certainly infected.

Pours deep dark opaque black with frothy brown foam head. The aroma is rich with chocolate malts, burnt malts, sweet molasses and then a tart tangerine bolt of lighting strikes down the experience. The flavor confirms this. I get big tartness from top to bottom. Mild malts follow but are only a shadow of flavors compared to the infected tartness. Pity. It seems like a good beer was in this bottle for a brief amount of time.

1000ml swingtop courtesy bstill. Pours opaque black with a fluffy tan head. Aroma of chocolate and coffee. The taste starts nicely but goes downhill due to what seems to be infection. Looks like I need to get a good bottle so I can re-rate this at some point.

Sample from 1L flip top at DLD 4/28/07. Pours black with a small beige head. The aroma was medium sweet chocolate with roasted character. The flavor was roasted malts, dark chocolate, some coffee, and a bite of alcohol. There was some hop presence leading to a dry bitter finish. Medium to full bodied. Thanks to whoever shared this beer.

Deep opaque brown-black body, thin-medium ochre head. Aroma of burnt brown sugar and licorice, grape Dimetapp, very sweet, with hints of alcohol. Sweet, rich body dominated by milk chocolate with potent grape Dimetapp (fruity, medicinal) notes, toast, and a lasting, leafy, astringent bitterness to close out the palate. Thick, heavy body. Delivers a few strong notes, but not one of my favorite imperial stouts. I acquired an infected bottle in a trade, and Jim Wagner of Du Claw graciously replaced the bad bottle with this one. Jim’s a class act.
