Commercial Description:
Paint it Black. Succumb to this dark, medium bodied German-style dark lager’s smooth roasted flavors and light hoppy bitterness. Don’t worry, you’ll remember everything the next morning. This beer has a rich maltiness with a light bitter-chocolate finish, and just enough hops to balance.

Rating # 1450. Draft @ Bowie location. Pours a dark, chocolate-brown color; solid khaki-colored head with fine-bubbled lacing. Pleasant amounts of roasted malts and coffee in the aroma; a touch of toasted grains. Medium mouthfeel: roasted malts, dark chocolate, and well-roasted coffee upfront (following the nose); very drinkable, straightforward schwarzbier; relaxed carbonation overall. Medium finish, showing cocoa and chocolate and basic cereal.

Deep dark brown with hints of red. Toasted malt aroma. Peat, toasted malt, with a pleasant bitter finish. Carbonation is good but it was a bit thin. A very good beer.

Brownish black, off white creamy head. Nose held soft notes of mild coffee and milk chocolate. Warming brings out faint bready leather notes. Roasty chocolate and bready grains mingle with light coffee flavors from start to finish. Light to medium bodied with medium carbonation. A well done rendition that’s easily sessionable...

Draft at Arundel Mills. Pours deep coffee brown with a light beige head, spotty lacing.Lighter side of medium bodied with a lively but ultra fine carbonation. Lagery aroma with a hint of of roast. Flavor of cocoa powder, nuts, and dark roast. There is a slight bitterness that lingers, and the mild astringency fades as it warms

Draft @ the Belair pub. Small tan head with fair retention and minimal lacing. An almost black brew with some ruby highlights showing when held to the light. Nose is lightly roasty, mineraly, faintly chocolatey and smokey. Body is lightly medium, somewhat thin with some black malt like astringency, ok though. Light roast flavors, grain, smoke notes, bitter sweet chocolate notes and a hint of caramel also. Fairy dry, lightly roasty finish.

Growler, shared by wickedpete. Thanks Pete! Nose was roasty and slightly hoppy with a bit of fruit. Had the makings of a good schwarzbier, but I found the body to be a little on the watery side. Good cocoa, roasted malt, slightly smokey flavors.
