Commercial Description:
Available only at special events put on by the brewery, Deception is our version of a Belgian Quad. Brewed with generous amounts of select malts, candi sugar, honey, choice spices and fermented with 2 diffwerent yeast strains, this huge beer actually belongs to a style that is all its own. Hand bottled and sealed with wax, our 1 liter bottles should age gracefully for years to come....if you can wait that long!

(8 mos. old) Small white head atop clear hazy body. Aroma is very sweet (candy sugar, honey), peach, flowery. Taste is painfully honey sweet, with fairly strong alcohol. Full body.

Thick white head. Yeasty aroma. Nice lacing. Flavor is sweet and full. Candy sugar sweetness is just about out of control. Sugar overdose imminent! Alcohol flavor on finish but not overpowering considering the ABV.

Light amber with loads of sweet candy malt. Winey aroma with bananas, loads of alcohol and other deep flavours. . . Not much too offer here. . .

Really attractive estery aroma, with plenty of hops. Flavor is rather dissappointing, though. Big flavor with hops to balance, but hugely sweet in the finish, and very confused tasting, with an alcoholic burn. One dimensional. This may settle down with age, but not for a while.

Hazy amber. Floral aroma, with some band-aid phenols and a hint of citrusy hop. Sweet body, with a powerful alcohol kick (at 16.4% this is more of a Quintuple!). Slight toastiness, and a hint of plastic round things out. I was never a huge Quad fan - too sweet and alcoholic - so I had trouble getting into such an over-the-top example. Thanks scraff, though, for securing this beast.

Peppery and perfumy, this monster is a bit over the top on the sweet side. Burning alcohol at this level cannot be masked, so drink with caution. These guys are making some interesting brews out East!!! This one is just a little to candy sweet for me. Saccharine like aftertaste once the burn wears off!

Spicy, hoppy, malty aroma, some tangerine and light melon. Pale, cloudy golden amber color. Flavor is likewise spicy, with notes of banana, peach, some barnyard (unexpected), pepper and fiery alcohol. Honeyish, malty finish. Really quite good.

RBSG2003 Basically looks like apricot juice... very hazy, deep amber. Small, off-white head. The nose is hoppy and pungent with huge notes of apricot and alcohol. The flavor is very malty, heavy and sweet. Not balanced. Lightly bitter on the backside, but the heavy, sweet malt and candy sugar win the war by a longshot! Full-bodied with a syrupy mouthfeel and soft carbonation. Lengthy, sweet and sour finish. Give this stuff a year in the bottle and it's damn close to a perfect 5.0!
