Aroma is relatively hoppy, with some nice citrus and general sweetness. Taste is much the same - quite sweet, hoppy. Perhaps a bit too sweet, but interesting. Alcohol is present, but not overpowering. Aurelius (2654), Tallahassee, Florida, USA

Too sweet. Way too sweet. Bittering was off kilter. Orange baby aspirin flavors. Amateurish. MrBendo (1044), Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA

Clear copper/burgundy with little head. Aroma was sweet fruit, caramel, apricot, and citrus hops. Taste was sweet fruit, hops and alcohol. A surprising amount of hops, here. A hoppy/bitter finish with a bit of alcohol. Damn fine. KUEric (632), Chevy Chase, Maryland, USA

Brown Sugary, malty, caramel, toffee, maple syrup, are among just a few of the many sweet and too sweet flavors. I will say with all of the sweet flavors it could very easily get some one in trouble with its 12% abv. Of course I couldn’t get past the overbearing sweetness. Not any semblance of balance. It looks nice enough. jsquire (2121), St. Marys, Ohio, USA

Caramel candy sweetness with an almost smokey darkness. Some oxidation, with a strong hop finish. Nice barley wine. kmweaver (2484), Sebastopol, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Nov 17, 2006 Draft at DuClaw (Bowie); our waiter noted the ABV was 10.5% this year. Clear orangish-red; fluffy off-white head with great retention and lacing. Full, hoppy aroma: citrus with a maple syrup background. Chewy, bitter hoppiness upfront (think a dank DIPA): plenty of belgian sugar and cotton candy behind it; perhaps overly bitter. Long, somewhat dry and bitter finish. A bit hot after it warms up. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 3, 2006 At RBSG 2006 party at RFD. A hazy amber beer with a lazing orange-beige head. The aroma is lovely sweet hop soup. The flavor is a bit like drinking a cold hop soup with lots of alfa acids and lots of fruit, leading to an end with a note of citrus that lingers for a long time and bit by bit turns dry. This beer is so strongly hoppy, that I find it like a sipping beer. BückDich (4857), McCall, Idaho, USA

Ruby amber color, creamy tan head, lots of lacing. Nose of sweet piney hops and maltose. The flavor has a touch of metallic, but it’s quickly overwhelmbed by the sweet syruppy caramel; rich body and exquisite hop compounds. The finish has a nice balanced bitter slap. Nice barleywine.
