Commercial Description:
Devil’s Milk is brewed in July and aged until its release in November. It is “dry-hopped” (hops are added after fermentation) nourishing the soul with an unholy alcohol content nearly double that of our other offerings while tempting unwitting patrons with its intense hop finish.

Tried at the MD Beerfest in Frederick. Quite simply the best beer there. Not only best beer but best brewery. It poured brown red, alcohol was not overpowering. Nice and smooth.

Bottle (hand bottled thanks to TAR) pours black plum, medium foamy sand colored head, with sticky lacing.   Sticky sweet malty aroma, brown sugar, molasses, and subtle dark pitted fruit on the nose.   Some hints of alcohol as well.   Bready flavor up front.   Quite sweet, but not cloying.   Full bodied, with an almost creamy mouthfeel.   Sweet, bready finish with very soft dark pitted fruit notes.   This Barley Wine was so soft and easy to put back.   Not cloying or heavy, and the ABV of 12.2% was not noticable on the tongue.   Very tasty!   Thanks goes out to TAR for the trade!

2003 Batch:
Dark amber coloured body with a small tan head. Aroma of pit fruits, caramel and toffee-very nice! Medium to Full-bodied; Strong sweet flavour with good prunes and caramel in the taste. Aftertaste sweet and not bitter at all. Overall, a real treat-great to try, especially as the first beer to the RB Party! I sampled this 75 cL bottle at the November RB party at Founder’s in Alexandria, Virginia on 20-November-2004.

This is a powerful beer, but the alcohol is not too intrusive. The colour is a rich coppery amber. Lots of dried fruit in the aroma, with some sherry-like woody notes. More fruit and candy sugar in he flavour, but there’s also plenty of orangey hop presence in the flavour to provide an excellent balance, with touches of toffee and caramel too. Smoot, but relatively light, palate - not too chewy, or too sweet. Dangerously drinkable. DC gathering.

Sampled @ RB Gathering, thanks again Scraff. If this is the real Devils Milk, I guess I’ll have something to drink for breakfast when I get to hell. Amber color with a nice aroma of alcohol, apricots and sweet caramel. Mouthfeel is smooth with the 12.2% masked nicely. You do get a bit of warmth from this but it’s really drinkable. Taste of over ripe oranges, honey and toffee are also in there. Nicely done.
