Commercial Description:
The winner of Baltimore Magazine’s “Best Beer in Baltimore 1998.” We’d like to thank the smooth, roasted malt flavor. The mild hop presence. The little people.

Draft at Fell’s Point. Poured deep amber color with small off white head. Aroma is malty and a touch sweet. There are hints of sweet corn in the taste and it was fairly smooth. There is an alcohol warming in the finish and that surprises me because of the low ABV.

Draught in Fells Point: This one pours a dark, ruby tinged amber color. There was a small off-white head on it. This one has a milder aroma. Some malt sweetness, but no real hop notes at all. The taste is good. I can detect faint roastiness and faint fruits. It has a well balanced medium body, with the taste being neither sweet or bitter. A nice session beer.

Arundel Mills location. Light amber and very glassy pour. Detailed aroma presents dates, roasted pecans, and cranberry; tepid spices powdering the edges. Cinnamon, red apple peel, and a hint of citrus tea. Strangely complex. Bold nutty and earth flavor; bitterness in walnut skins and wet bark in lieu of even the gentlest hop assertion, becoming even a bit acerbic with raspberry seed and more apple peel a few sips in. Ample, dark and candy-like malt sweetness rests easily beneath. Crisp palate of a medium body. Altogether very pleasant; an example more nuanced than it may seem on the surface.

Growler from Fell’s Point. This beer’s strength is its simplicity. The balance is good, the beer is crisp, and there is less aftertaste than I expected. I would drink this anytime.

aroma was full of malty sweetness with a bit of roasted presense in the backround. beer was dark amber, just a shade less than the brown ale, pretty dark amber ale. flavor was malty, and roasty with just enough hops for balance. I would have liked a little something from the hops though, some spiceiness to go with the sweetness would have been nice. medium palate. an okay beer.

The aroma consisted of a light toast with a slight bit of chocolate malt, but otherwise not much there. The beer was brownish red with a creamy long lasting head which laced the glass. The flavor was light chocolate malt coupled with caramel and a bit of a toasty presence. The bittering emerged in the dry finish but was restrained elsewhere. The body was medium light with a moderate level of carbonation. A nice beer but a bit boring.

Tap @ Arundel Mills: Poured a clear mahogany color with a small persistent off-white head. The aroma was malty with a mild fruity character. The malty flavor had notes of toffee and nuts. The flavor started with a mild fruitiness and finished malty with a hint of chocolate. Light bitterness on the finish which was the first time the hops came through. Semi-dry with a light-medium body.
