Commercial Description:
The winner of Baltimore Magazine’s “Best Beer in Baltimore 1998.” We’d like to thank the smooth, roasted malt flavor. The mild hop presence. The little people.

Tap. A nice deep red color. Very sweet aroma. Very sweet tasting. A little too malty for my tastes but everyone else at the table seemed to like it.

Has a nice deep color. Very nice aroma for a Red. It is my go to beer at DuClaw if the seasonal is out.

On tap, from growler. Poured out a deep amber / reddish color. Thin white head left slight foam around rim of glass. Aromas are of sweet malts, some chocolate malts, slight brown sugar smell, and earthy hops. Thin body, medium mouthfeel. Bitter dark chocolate aftertaste. Too much chocolate malt for my liking.

Maple syrup, brown color with some red and gold. Decent, lasting white head sits afloat. Scent smells like paper pulp, so weird. Very mild, flavorful beer. Begins metal hoppy, then hits with coffee hops and mik chocolate. Doughy grains with grapefruit citrus at the end. A lot going on for such a subtle palate. Definitely worth a try. For the record, DuClaw brewery consistency has some of the best looking beers with the longest lasting heads that I’ve seen.

On tap at Arundel Mills location. Appearance was a deep ruby red with virtually no head. Aroma was pretty balanced and of strawberries. Taste was also very well-balanced with a hint of tangy strawberries. Slightly more malty than hoppy. A little roasty. Just a little bit of hops in the finish. On the thin side.

from the arundel mills brewpub, a medium malt aroma comes of a nice amber body covered with creamy tan head that faded down to a nice lacing. the caramel malts made up most of the flavor with just a hint of smokiness to the back of the mouthfull. a very smooth and creamy mouthfeel and a smattering of bitterness on the tail end. i cant imagine how this was the best beer in baltimore, but it wasn’t a bad brew.

Dark reddish amber, sweet aroma, caramel the most prominent flavor, somewhat watery, overall an ok beer.

Easily the best beer available (at the time) at DuClaw. I am sure there are others that are a little better, but I liked this amber a lot! Very dark amber, lots of character. Aroma was sweet and taste was mild with a bit of a kick. Quite good!
