CaptainCougar (5379), Rockville, Maryland, USA Jun 17, 2009 Tap at Arundel Mills in Mar 2008: Pours an opaque black with dark brown edges and a frothy creamy dark tan head. Aroma of sweet, smoky dark malts and a touch of milk chocolate and grain. Body starts lightly caramely sweet, quickly drying out before an earthy smoky lingering finish. I didn’t taste much raspberry flavor, but pretty good nonetheless. nuplastikk (1161), Madison, Wisconsin, USA May 13, 2009 Draft. Brown black color. Artificial but pleasant raspberry-chocolate aroma. Smooth body, with a nice tart balance. Easy drinking with some mild roastiness. Cloying sticky sweet raspberry aftertaste. OK. Firemoose15 (540), Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, USA May 10, 2009 2 different growlers from 2 different locations over a weekend. Aroma of coffee and raspberry. Pours black with dark tan head. Flavors of chocolate and raspberry entwined nicely with the roast malts and a touch of vanilla. Medium bodied and definitely inviting for more. Overall I liked it immensely. illinismitty (1790), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Apr 29, 2009 For starters, this is served at lager temps and is way too cold, so don’t even think about drinking it right away. Trust me. Pours black with a one finger beige head. Aroma of coffee grounds and raspberry. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Initial flavor of dark roasted malts, strong coffee, vanilla, and raspberry. Finishes dry and bitter. This is basically an aggressive dry stout with raspberry. Not bad at all. A tad overattenuated for my tastes. JB175 (1654), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA Apr 14, 2009 Darker brown with an aroma of sweet/tart raspberries and roast. Flavor is sweet with lots of raspberries and a decent dose of coffee and chocolate. Pretty good overall. lamas (709), Adams Morgan, Washington DC, USA Apr 10, 2009 Draft at Bowie location. Dark mahogany/near black appearance with a skim of a tan head. Rich aroma of raspberries, dark chocolate, cocoa, and plenty of roasty coffee. Thin for a stout. Seemed like more of a porter. Sweet caramel start with a slightly drying roasty coffee finish. A bit of a sour, nuttiness at the end. Tangy raspberries and chocolate throughout. A fuller body and this would be killer shit. beachbum25 (778), Powellville, Maryland, USA Apr 4, 2009 On tap-Arundel Mills-Dark brown pour w/a moderate head. Aroma of dark chocolate. Flavor of dark chocolate w/just a touch of raspberry-almost like eating a fine piece of raspberry flavored dark chocolate. Not overdone or sickly sweet, just the right balance. Had some coffee flavor in the background. Long, rich, smooth finish. Fruit beers can be a real hit or miss, this one was a definite winner; really more of a sweet stout than a fruit beer. Perfect before/after dinner brew. egajdzis (3602), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Mar 25, 2009 Poured an opaque black color with a medium sized, tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, dark chocolate, some smoke, caramel, vanilla, and a bit of raspberries. Taste of dark chocolate, lightly tart raspberries, roasted malts, smoke, and vanilla beans in the finish.
