illinismitty (1313), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Jul 27, 2007 Draft at Arundel Mills at the X-mas in July party. 2003 Vintage. Pours a hazy copper orange with a creamy and retentive beige head. Aroma seems to have faded, as the fruity esters and hops were very subdued. Medium bodied but with a lighter british ale like texture. Flavor of toffee and butterscotch syrup with a subtle amount of sweetness. Middle is fruity with a mellowed hoppiness. Finish is semi-dry and dusty with some mild notes of tea. Hats off to Jim for releasing vintage kegs. This was enjoyable, but I suspect this is past it’s prime. kmweaver (1762), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA Jul 27, 2007 Draft @ Arundel Mills location, 2003 vintage. Pours a clear, orangish color; off-white head with good retention and lacing. Light, candy sugar presence in the aroma; the hops have entirely dropped out at this point. Medium-to-full mouthfeel: grapey / fruit presence upfront, with some toasted malts and candy sugars present, but this would be much better with some hops left; some dry caramel. Medium, candy sugar finish; slightly dry. thedm (3405), Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA Sep 21, 2006 This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a large sized head of frothy light brown colored bubbles that was quickly diminishing and left behind a transparent softly carbonated brown colored body. The aroma was malty vinous and sweet. The semi-thick thin mildly vinous mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish. The flavor contained notes of malt and sweet. An OK brew just nothing special. themadmumis (343), Westminster, Maryland, USA Jul 15, 2006 A very sweet style of brew, a few steps below DuClaw’s Repent offering. The only old style ale I’ve ever had, I enjoyed the caramel but it was a little too much for my palate. Unfortunately, I missed the cask offering of this brew. It is an above average brew with an unique style that is distinctive to DuClaw. This is fun! muzzlehatch (4422), Burlington, Vermont, USA May 4, 2006 Nice-sized draught sample at the Bel Air location. A thick, creamy off-white topping floats atops a bright, scintillating copper body and decays to form thick spidery lacing....brandy, caramel and juicy raisins in the nose, rather subtle and low-powered at first but growing in strength fairly quickly and offering baked figs and walnuts for interest when warm....the body is quite delicate, tart cherries in light syrup swirling into rum-soaked burnt raisins, all in a soft, cottony body that becomes rather too watery and dull at the finish, dry and somewhat burnt....the overall effect is very interesting and well-done as are all of Du Claw’s works, but in this case there is a little too much dryness for a proper appreciation of the caramelly malts and dried fruity esters....a bit overattenuated, in the final analysis, and a couple of steps from greatness. Still a nice try.
