Commercial Description:
Be ashamed ... be VERY ashamed. Fall on your knees and welcome our newest ale - REPENT! Be there on Thursday, September 1st* for the introduction of our special new "Belgian Pent." This strong ale starts off sweet, with fruity nuances and hints of caramel and toffee, and finishes smooth with a definite alcohol presence. But look out - its 14.6% alcohol content is bound to make you beg for forgiveness!

Strong, strong, strong. Sweet and fruity. Almost a cross between Belgian and a Barleywine. I cracked one of the three bottles I had for this years Thanksgiving with family. Poured a orange/gold color with a medium frothy white head. Generally pretty pleasant, and tastes beautifully malty and sweet. I’m lucky I have two more bottles (after having gifted one to a close friend). Now only if ALL DuClaw beers would be as good. (Bottle Pour 11/25/2007)

Thanks to Kmweaver for trading this to me so that I could share this bottle with everyone at the Tennessee Spring(ish) Tasting! A fleeting tan head covers this clear, dark brown brew. Complex aroma that plays with some malt, licorice, Dr. Pepper, prune juice and smoke; all of which come again in the flavor. Smooth, sweet, full palate. A very good beer, but be prepared for a sweet one.

Springslicker shared bottle 224/500 with us at the spring(ish) tasting. A brown pour with a light tan lacing. A huge raisiny aroma and other dried fruit. Just a hint of alcohol on the edge. A flavor of dates and a sweet maltiness that comes through almost like sherry. A full palate with excellent smooth carbonation and mouth feel. A beer that would best be described as an excellent dessert beer. thanks Jay

Bottle 224/500: A special "thank you" to SpringsLicker for sharing this beer at the Tennessee Spring(ish) Tasting in Knoxville, TN on 3/10/2007... Repent seems a bit intimidating as it sits there in its large, nearly black flip-top bottle sealed with black wax and hidding behind an almost demononic label... It pours out a beautifully clear, fairly dark amber color with a fleeting ivory head. A very sweet blend of malts and aged fruits quickly capture the nose and dare you to venture closer. When you do, you’ll also notice some slight smoke and alcohol in the aroma as well. The flavor is also sweet, but so very good and complex Threads of rich caramel malt, aged fruit (raisins, prunes, berries), cola, and other port-like qualities all weave together to create an intense flavor experience. The alcohol seems to masquerade itself well sometimes surfacing and tasting like port and other times reminding me more of sweet whisky. The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy like thin syrup with a medium to full texture. This is a wonderful beer. I don’t think I’d have any problem sitting around all night enjoying this beer until I managed to finish the entire bottle! However, it’s so good that I nearly fell out of my chair and onto my knees to repent since I felt so bad for drinking it. Thanks again Jay. This was a rare treat!

Thanks to Springslicker for sharing this bottle with us at the Tennessee Spring(ish) Tasting! (Bottle 224/500) Poured a brownish red with a creamy off-white head. Sweet aroma with fruits (prunes & raisins) and vanilla back by a hint of alcohol and a whiff of smoke. The flavor has very enjoyable fruits (apple) present with caramel malts mixed in. Medium body, creamy & smooth, and sweet throughout. Definitely an after dinner sipper. Truly a treat. Thanks Jay!
