Ungstrup (14754), Frederiksberg, Denmark Apr 4, 2008 Bottled at RBESG 2007. A brown beer with a red shine and no head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of roasted malty and alcohol. The flavor is sweet malty with notes of soy sauce, caramel, coffee, cinnamon, wood, and alcohol. The body is strong, and the alcohol burns in the throat. larsniclas (3383), Gothenburg, Sweden Oct 27, 2007 Updated: May 31, 2008Sampled at SBWF, 2007.
Hazy dark brown. Beige/brown head.
Extremely full-bodied. Vinous with raisins, chocolate, coffee.... Very sweet and almost oily. Rastacouere (5551), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Oct 25, 2007 Made without dark malts this one and the information is of significant importance. This monster appears in a dark brown attribute, covered by a fading off-white cover. Sugary and fruity nose can’t help, but have us think of date squares. Molasses and corn beer background. More intense in mouth where it never approaches to feeling like 16%+. Full on berry, dark plum and date flavours. The fruitiness is its soul, but not its entire being. Licorice and earthy caramel finish. Syrupy, full-bodied, and begging for a quick teeth cleaning, but it remains a fine candy and from this brewer, a gift. Svesse (2597), Hässelby, Sweden Oct 6, 2007 (Bottle, Stockholm Beer Festival, 28 Sep 2007) Dark brown colour with hints of black and ruby. Brief brown head. Full, malty nose with roasted coffee, wood, dried fruit and prunes. Vinous. Full, malty taste with chocolate, dried fruit, vanilla and loads of coffee in the finish. Thick, syrupy mouthfeel, almost cloying (just to say "full bodied" doesn’t seem to suffice). Obviously very sweet, actually too sweet for me. It’s a nice beer now, but give it a couple of years and it might be stunning. ante (2904), Stockholm, Sweden Sep 30, 2007 Bottled at SBWF. POurs out in a dark brown colour with a low beige foam. Big sweet aroma of brown sugar, wood, burnt maruenge, chocolate sauce and honey. Sweet and sticky flavour of coffee liqour, wood, sweet anise and alcohol. Sticky full mouthfeel. Long sweet finish of dark chocolate, coffee, brown sugar and wood. rickgordon (3285), Göteborg, Sweden Sep 24, 2007 Bottled. RBESG.
Dark brown colour. No head. Very sweet and syrupy with notes of glue. Immensly sweet with notes of glue and residual sugars. At this stage, long before a storing period of at least six months, this is far from beer. Lacking in darker malts, that are all hidden behind a blanket of stickiness. Gimme a sample after X-mas, I’d love to try it then. Big thanks to Dugge though, for letting us to try it in Scotland. Sigmund (2197), Hafrsfjord, Norway Sep 3, 2007 Bottle, RBESG 2007 in Glasgow, Grand Tasting. Dark brown colour. Extremely woody aroma, seems a bit unbalanced. The flavour is also very woody with coffee notes, alcoholic. No match for Nøgne Ø Dark Horizon. KnutAlbert (3108), Oslo, Norway Sep 3, 2007 Bottle, RBESG 07.
Port/sherry, strong warming alcohol feeling, prunes and cherries. Blends into a beautiful beer, which I’ll explore further at the first opportunity.
