Aroma of malt and spice is quite interesting with some floral aspect to it. Carbonation is good with just above average body. Mix of spice is quite interesting and most resemble Duvel, or a darker Duvel. Never tasted the original beer that was brewed before Boon took over but I still like this one. Many Thanks for my friend traveling in Belgian for bringing this back. Also, beautiful bottle that seems like it was used 100 years ago for the first time. sayravai (3790), Helsinki, Finland
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Feb 2, 2005 (Bottled) Hazy, deep, dark red color with lots of floating yeast and a medium, lacy and lasting head. Slightly sour and sweet, fruity aroma. Fruity, slightly caramely sweet, but sourish, quite malty flavor with a reasonable hop bite. Medium to full-bodied palate with very balanced carbonation. A very pleasant, quite full but easily drinkable brew. Fin (3495), Merton, Oxfordshire, England

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Sep 3, 2007 on tap at erasmus. pours reddish-brown with off white head. nose of oak, toffee, and cherries. flavor mellow oak with subtle cherries slightly tart, with soft toffee finish. everything in perfect balance and subdued. easy to drink. carbonation is mellow and full mouth feel. i’m not sure what there isn’t to like about this beer and i don’t get the low ratings. perhaps beer has gone through some changes. tasted like a brown ale aged in a boon kriek barrel. mike1977ok (648), Netherlands

If I'm bot misinformed this blending beer was previously brewed at Vanderlinden, but now Boon has taken over, and also ramped up the alcohol significantly. The colour is mahogany and there is no head. There are malt and dark cherries in the aroma. It is sweet and clean with complex woody cherry flavours and a touch of balsam. The finish is discrete and velvetty. dirkbreedveld (254), Netherlands
