Commercial Description:
A wonderfully balanced true pale ale. Cascade, Tomahawk, and Amarillo hops create a citrusy aroma with a smooth, crisp finish. A subdued malt character nicely complements the hop complexity and produces an orangey amber hue.

Bottle. Frothy, off-white head that diminishes quickly. Clear amber body. Light aroma of malt and resin and not much else. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes lightly sweet and lightly to moderately bitter. A bit chewy and unclean with tastes of dusty grain. Medium body, smooth texture with a prickly carbonation. Ho-hum APA. Too bad the hops aren’t a little more distinct, especially in the aroma and that it leaves you with a grainy aftertaste.

12oz bottle into a pint glass. Got this in a sampler pack with several other JWs. Wasn’t blown away by too many of them.

Large-bubbled amber coloured body almost clear at the bottom with a non-existant, soapy white head that looks more like a good ginger ale than anything else - this looks horrible as a beer! Aroma of metal, cola, horribly old pale malt and some other gross scents - bad! Light-bodied; Way metallic with a gross semi-sweet malt flavour. Aftertaste shows metal bitterness, some malt, some caramel and nothing pleasant. Overall, this is one absolutely horrible beer - I don’t know how this is anywhere close to as highly rated as it is! I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Chantilly, Virginia on 11-July-2009, sampled at home in Washington on 30-July-2009. I never had a chance to sample this while at college in Rochester - but it’s probably good that I didn’t! This one really is THAT bad!

Bottle as shown. Pours a copper with a medium creamy white head that leaves behind decent spotty lacing along the glass. The aroma is a bready malt with citrus and pine. Thin mouthfeel and a bit watery on the palate. The taste is wheat grass with citrus and light malt. Not much going on with this pale ale.

pours a rich golden color with an off white head and moderate lacing. it smells slightly metallic with notes of pale malt, malt powder, citrus (orange specifically) and grass. the flavor is quite malty... tastes a bit like caramel creams and citrus with a fairly dry finish made mostly by bitterish pine. medium body is a little on the watery side. if it tasted better it would be considered refreshing. 5/3/5/3/11/2.7

12oz bottle. Pours a clear orange body with a finger-width, off-white head that dissipates quickly and leaves a moderate amount of chunky lacing. Aroma is sweet caramels and biscuity malts with a light, piney citrus. Flavor is malty with lots of bready caramels and a light amount of deep piney citrus. Finishes with a slow drying bitterness and a grainy malt that doesn’t linger for too long. Medium bodied and watery. Overall, a pretty bland APA. Has a decent hop flavor, but unimpressive.

THOUGHTS: Really nothing memorable. I do love the new labels , but hate the fact that they dropped the "J.W.". It said on the label that it’s perfectly balanced, but I thought it leaned way too much to the hop side at first. It did balance out as it warmed though. Not bad, just nothing special. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, light to medium orangey amber with a small, off-white head that mostly diminished and left barely fair lacing. The aroma was weak. There was light to moderate grain and caramel malt and light herbal and piney hops. The initial flavor was sweet and a little acidic; while the finish was lightly sweet, bitter, slightly sour and slightly acidic with an average to short duration. There was a little caramel malt, grain. piney hops, slight metallic hops alight citrus hops, a little herbal hops and tea. But it was all a bit watered down. The light to medium body was like watery syrup with very fizzy carbonation and a lightly astringent and slightly metallic finish.
