Pours a clear, rich, golden hue with a sparse snow white head. Smells of fruity malt with hints of tart apple cider. Taste is rich, bright, pale malt. Sweetish and lightly fruity. Hints of green apple. Some muted hops in the finish. Strangely, a bit dry up front, with a sweetish but clean finish. Really tasty. This stuff is money. And it’s a great beer for the money. Check out a six-pack (it may take a full six-pack to get this beer), hell, it’s cheap!

12oz bottle from a multi-pack. Amber body with a thin off-white head. Smell is feint, but hints at malty sweetness. Tastes malty sweet with hints of grain bitterness toward the finish. Lighter-bodied making this a pretty drinkable beer. Not overly complex or wow-ing, but a solid drinkable beer, and one of their better offerings IMO.

Bottle. Pours a deep golden amber color with a small white head. Smell is not enough to comment on. Taste is a great balance of hops and malts. The beer gets high marks on a smooth drink with great malty character balanced nicely with hops. Good smooth, decently bodied drink - malty ale. . ipso facto. . . bock

Appearance is a thin layer of watery head atop a clear medium-orange. Initial swath of lace. Like a darkish pale ale. First whiff of pale malt; tangy. Some dark toasted, nutty malt. Good balance of dry malt and slightly nutty caramel malt. Hop presence is negligible. Spicy, tangy pale malt taste at first, then a deep roasted caramel and molasses. Hint of raisin and dark chocolate. Full of dark flavors that keep coming as it warms. Solid, for sure. The feel is thick but also smooth. A bit prickly at the swallow. Not bad at all. Overall, it’s a nice, substantial but darkly drinkable brew.

Poured light golden almost orangie appearance with a little head and good lacing. Aroma was like a light bock. A mix of bread, molasses, and dough all in light amounts. Taste was just a light bock. I didn’t taste any pale characteristics.

Botle. Pours hazy gold, soft white foamy head. Smells malty sweet with a hint of hops. Tastes sweet and lightly malty, followed by slight bitter from the hops, body is good. Aftertaste is pleasant. Id drink this one again.

Nice amber pour. Light floral hop and malt aroma. I am enjoying their current crop of labels. The sweet malty flavor is balanced by some tasty, peppy hops. A good blend of flavors, and another nice brew from Dundee.

12 oz bottle from the new variety pack. Foamy white head, light gold/amber color with not a great deal of aroma. It’s got a fuller mouthfeel than you might expect, and as I’ve come to learn about JWD brews, this is a bit of a pleasant surprise. They are geographically close by therefore easy to come by, and very modestly priced... and better than the average beer. I was very pleased with the porter, and now I find this latest seasonal equally good. Not overhopped, not overpowering, a nice spring/summer lager with more flavor than the average lager. Is it a bock? To be honest, I’ve not enough experience with that style to make a qualified call. But I’ll say that I do like this, and I always like a more full bodied, flavorful beer. For the price, it’s well worth it.
