Red brown with large beige head. Roasted malt in the aroma that also holds some rye bread. Sweet flavour with roasted malt and coffee notes. Needs more power.

Bottle. Pours a brown color with almost no head. Aroma is roasted malts, caramel, and coffee. Taste is the same. Very drinkable, not to complex. Something was missing.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Appearance: The pour produces a one inch thick foamy head. It has a light tan color and very good retention. It fades very slowly and makes some cool, slick lacing as it makes its way down the glass. The body has a very dark brown color that is nearly opaque with dark, deep crimson highlights. Smell: The aroma is rather light and has some light roasted malt notes with some leafy hops and a hint of sweet caramel. Taste/Mouth feel: Its flavor has solid base of sweet roasted malt with dark caramel and light coffee notes. Hop flavor is modestly balanced and has a nice leafy tone with a very slight metallic touch creeping in as well. The finish has a quick flash of roasted flavor before quickly fading off the tongue. The palate has a solid medium body and a slick smooth texture with well balanced carbonation. Notes: Overall this was a very solid Porter with good drinkability. To me this is one of the better offerings from the Dundee craft beer line of the High Falls Brewing Co.

12oz bottle poured into an English pint. Starting temperature is 39 degrees F. DP pours dark brown, verging on black, with an off-white head that is medium to small in size and leaves thin soapy lacing. The aroma is very malty with a strong scent of artificial caramel. As the description claims, the hops make a subtle appearance. The body is a little heavier than I would expect from a porter, easily in the stout range. This beer is a bit dry. It has a nice flavor of slightly burnt grains and coffee along with a sweet nut taste. There is something peculiar about the taste I can not quite put my finger on. It is sour and unpleasant. I wonder if I might have a slightly old bottle. I have another bottle and if the taste is not present in the other one I will let you know. As is typical of a dry beer the finish is quick, leaving little memento of its passing.

After dozens of these, and the novelty of being 75c wearing off, still my favorite. Way better than Guinness. But- ESSENTIAL- serve warm in a frosted/frozen glass. This will bring out a thick, tasty head with bitter, nutty, and alcohol flavors, removing these from the liquid, and making the carbonation properly light for the style. Now, the strongest flavor is sweet chocolate malt. Do not chill beer before pouring gently into frosted glass. There are some serious flaws and bitterness when served normally. It is a shame the bottle has no instructions, given the difference it makes.
