I really find it hard to believe that this is the highest rated beer from ’JW’. As a porter goes....this is bad. Aroma is absent, flavor is dull. color is watered down and the palate...what palate. I have to compare this with other proters and - well, it doesn’t compare. ONLY redeeming quaility is ’6.5’ Other wise I would not have given this beer such a high score.

12 oz. bottle part of a mixed 12 pack - Pours a clear brown color with a one finger thick light tan head. Light lacing. Aroma is toasted caramel malt. Flavor is a lightly sweetened toasted caramel malt and a touch of chocolate. Mouthfeel has a little fizz to it. Light to medium body. A decent beer.

Bottle. Pours almost black with a beige head. Aroma is slightly roasted with notes of biscuits and bread dough. Medium body. Flavor notes include roasted coffee, light caramel, bread, and brown sugar. An okay beer, +1 in the overall score for being local.

Very different on tap from in bottle. A Scotch Porter (listed as such when on tap, but not in the bottle), the bottle version is slightly undercarbonated and a little thin tasting. Still quite good, but a little like toasted barleywater. On tap, however, it is world class, malty and sweet with a little alcohol bite on top. This beer (on tap) is far better than I thought would come from the J.W. Dundee line, I think they should promote it heavily and come up with a stout as well.

pours dark brown with small tan head with smells of roasted malt and a little to hoppy for a porter, taste of mild maltyness with a slight hint of choclate i’d say middle of the road

J.W. Dundee’s Porter ABV: 6.5% IBU: ? Calories: 170 Volume: 12 oz Glass: tulip Purchased at: Joe Canal’s as a part of a sampler Price per fl oz: $11 / 144 fl oz = $.07 per fl oz Consumed on/at: home on March 18th, 2008 sensory first impression: My first ever porter, I’m sure, and not likely the best exemplar. It’s thick enough to be dark, but still translucent. Very chocolaty, quite nutty, and not at all unenjoyable, but not nearly to the degree of Rogue or Brooklyn’s stouts. Okay lace - tan head, but not frothy or deep. Good aroma. Okay color - a bit alcoholic. Aroma/Olfactory: Malt flavor is: chocolate, coffee, nuts, and roast. Hop flavor is: resinous, and herbaceous Yeast flavor is: doughy, moldy, and very dry Other flavors include: alcohol, corn, raisin, a touch of smoke Visuals/Appearance: Color is: dark reddish brown, thick but not inpenetrable Liquid is: dark and translucent at 90% Head and lace are: thin, tan Taste/Flavor: Maltiness or Sweetness level is: medium to heavy Hoppiness or Bitterness level is: light Sour level is: very light Palate/Tactile: Body or Mouthfeel is: medium to full Texture is: creamy, thick, papery Carbonation is: flat Finish is: long and not bad at all. Overall experience: A fairly dark beer with a nice nutty chocolaty taste. For the price, it’s fantastic, but for the type, it’s lacking. Spending $ on a 12 pack sampler, vs a 6 pack of chocolate stouts at 10% is like to result in different outcomes. This is likely the best of the sampler though.

Bottle; sampler Pack 2008. My favorite from this sampler - none of which were undrinkable, all of which at least had some character. Pleasantly roasty malt aroma. Pours looking like a stout - tastes a bit like one too but ligter body than it looks. Nice smooth palate. Not oily. Some cocoa. Some coffee. Mostly roast malt- not "ashtray" burnt. Not bad at all. BUY AGAIN? Ifa six at this sub-micro price; YES

Sample box split with BMan1113VR. Pour a chocolate brown color with a off white head. Nose is milk, old coffee, roasted malt, and some dirt. Taste is siapy, semi sweet, and the mouthfeel is smooth. This beer has a very dry roasted character that remindes me of a dry stout. Not bad.
