THOUGHTS: Well it looked nice. Not much aroma or flavor though. Not a very good porter. Way to thin for the style. Before this I didn’t realize you could make a bad porter. Guess I was wrong. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a clear, brown that was nearly black in the glass with red highlights and a small, off-white head that mostly diminished and left fair lacing. The aroma was roasted malt and cocoa. The initial flavor was moderately sweet; while the finish was lightly sweet and lightly bitter and a little sour. There was roasted malt, cocoa, a hint of hops and a little licorice. But it was all a bit watery. The light to medium body was like watery syrup and then a little dry with fizzy carbonation and a sort of chalky finish.

12oz bottle. Filtered looking, dark stained glass reddish-brown. Decent, foamy head. The aroma is a little sweet with a touch of odd astringency. Pretty awful mouthfeel, like a nitro hit with a wave of macro dark malt swill. Medium bodied I guess. Not good.

Very impressed with this porter. For a widely distributed beer, this one really scores high. Great, rich flavor and solid looking beer.

[2116-20090426] 12floz bottle. Chocolate-dipped toasty bread aroma. Dark brown black body with a medium-lasting foamy tan head. Lovely toasted chocolate-dusted bread. Medium body. Drinkable, good, surprising!

12 ounce bottle from a sampler. Pours a ruby tinted brown color. Medium head with decent head retention and lacing. Aroma is slightly acrid roasted malts with slight chocolate note. Taste is roasted malts, caramel and very light leafy hops. Thin-medium bodied.

Bottle: Brown pour with a ruby hue and a tan head that fades. Mild aromatics- mild chocolate notes with a touch of soy sauce character. Silky and fluffy on the palate. Decent malt flavor- mild soft roast with a decent chocolate malt presence and a mild smoky note. Rounded malt flavors overall. Simple but with no major flaws.

poured an opaque brownish-red hue with a tan head that had good retention and nice lacing. Aroma had a mild sense of roasted coffee and a moderate cocoa note. Flavor was similar but did have a nice almost smokey note to it. A creamy body that was a little on the light side, but still good.

Poured a dark brown with lots of ruby streaming through. A short little off-white head formed and was gone in a flash. The aroma was roasted malt, and some smoke. Had a tough time finding much sweetness or chocolate. The flavor was dry roasted malt, light smoke and thin caramel. The mouthfeel was on the thin side with an unfortunate sour, acidic finish. Not very good.
