FBG07. Wow, they are not joking around. Blindfolded, I’d tell you I ordered beer, not iced coffee. Slightly amber tinged brown with a brownish (coffe colored!) head. Not a great flavor. Somewhat sour, slightly bitter. Interesting concept, executed in a less interesting manner.

This is a special coffee beer that seems to really stand out. The aroma had plenty of coffee and so did the flavor. The palate was a tad thin but overall it’s quite good.

On draft @ brewery. I was told this was their first big batch of this beer (7 barrels). Deep amber color with thin off white head. Wow, this beer smells like a cup of coffee. It is really just amazing. Almost like sticking your nose into a hand full of coffee grounds. I think behind the coffee aroma I can pick up roasted malts. The taste is full on coffee. I should be drinking this with eggs and bacon in the morning. Like the aroma I can just taste some roasted to burnt malts behind the coffee. Around the edges are some pine hop notes. Tasty beer full of coffee aroma and flavor.

Pours almost black with nice tan head. Great coffee flavor all over the place nice vanilla touch to it, suppose to be the brown ale with coffee beans thrown in but this should be made instead of the brown ale, the coffee is just perfect it’s not overpowering but just the right amount, very creamy, very tasty, very good beer, I loved it.

Definite coffee aroma, some chocolate too. Pours a dark brown with a tan head. I thought the flavor was excellent, i love coffee, it reminded me of a cafe mocha. Chocolate and coffee throughout. I really enjoyed it.

(On tap) Clear, dark brown - close to black - with a tint of orange. Pretty much lacking head. Extremely distinct coffee aroma. Light and almost watery body completely dominated by coffee flavours and an edge of chocolate. Quite delicate. 040406

December 06 re-rate
Re-rate. New batch has cocoa nibs and a new type of coffee. Makes it feel fresher and finishes on a sweet chocolatey note that is much more appropriate to a brown ale then just coffee flavors. Very nice beer. Much improved. Looks better, head stay longer and the mouthfeel is slightly thicker. Dunedin’s best brew to date.
Original Rating 3.5
Aroma is coffee, coffee, coffee. Dark brown with a thumb thick tan head. Fore is coffee, middle...chocolate and coffee and the finish is esspresso and more coffee. This is the coffiest coffee beer you will ever have. It’s so one dimensional they should serve it poured flat onto a plate and not in a 3D pint.
Still if you like coffee it’s very hard not to enjoy drinking this. It seems thinnish because all that coffee invokes thick stouts laced with coffee, but it is a Brown Ale so it’s really about right for the style. I like coffee flavors so it was tasty to me though terribly simple.
