| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 9, 2004 Thanks to Matta for this bottle. Good beer. Nice smokiness all the way through. Was a tad on the water side. Still nice a flavoraful however. Kinz (2207), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jul 7, 2004 Thanks to matta for the bonus bottle! This ain’t no porter. I would have dropped it in the Smoked category. Dark amber color, decent but fading head. Smoke aroma. Flavor is also smokey, with just enough malt to keep it from overwhelming like some of the German smoked beers. Short finish. snoot (277), Anaheim, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 8, 2004 So, I’m cleaning out all the crappy beers from my fridge ("Beer of the World" gifts packs and such) and I find this in the back...now, I remember that I got this from matta in a trade, so I know that with all the crap in there, I just stumbled on a good one. Pours a very dark brown, thin head. Roasty and smoked aroma, very interesting flavor as well, I’m not much of a scotch drinker but I think I taste peat in there. A little thin bodied. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | May 31, 2004 Pours a clear deep garnet color. It is topped by a thick light brown head. There is a sharp smoky phenolic aroma from the smoked malt, and some underlying aromas of crystal malt is barely able to peek through the smoke. The taste is lightly sweet with notes of caramel, malt and toast. The finish is solidly of smoke, which is quite strong in the first sip. Subsequent sips are much less smoky though. The smoke has a plastic/ phenolic note to it, which is perhaps a characteristic of peat smoked malt, as I don’t remember it in the beech smoked beers of Bamberg.
Definitely and interesting beer. The, at first, intense smokiness really dies down as my taste buds become saturated with the smoke. This is a solidly malty brew with nary a hop note discernable, which is a good thing. austinpowers (2828), New York, New York, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | May 21, 2004 This is a very roasty, burnt porter not terribly akin to anything Scottish in style. It’s thick and badly charred, like a tree after a wildfire. Touch of smokiness. Hint o’ coffee. Thanks MattA. lilannie (383), State College, Pennsylvania, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | May 16, 2004 Aroma: piney/woody, smokey, slight medicine and chocolate scents and some coffee
Appearance: dark brown with reddish tint
Flavor: chocolate and strong smokiness, mediciny flavors, overall though the flavors are quite lite
Palate: sweet, smooth, bittersweet coffee with creamer aftertaste
Overall: very light, smooth porter--good as a summer drink ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | May 16, 2004 Thanks to matta for the trade. Medium-dark brown body with a large brown head, nose of smoke and butter, scotch or wood in there too. Flavor doesn?t match exactly... the aroma resembles Alaskan Smoked Porter, the flavor is more of a light and sweet, woody porter. Quite good.
