Lots of mousse and occasional swiss cheese spots throughout the head, with plenty of sheets of drippy lace all over the sides of the glass. There’s a difficult to place sweet note on the nose....cherry, probably, with a bit of white sugar underneath. Body’s a little on the light side of medium. Some carb, but not much, and too much water. Chocolate and cherry on the mid-palate. Not sure why I miss the coffee on the nose and the mid-palate, but I am not finding it. It does make an appearance on the finish. Not too bar, really. Maybe just a few weeks of age helped this one? kp (8500), Woodstock, Georgia, USA

Taste is coffee and a sharp, unnatural texture. Hard to explain, but it doesn’t feel right. Doesn’t go down easily. Stine (1380), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 11/20 | Jun 8, 2007 Pretty, dense black pour with a lovely layer of mocha foam. Nose of black cherry and cola, vanilla-hazelnut latte. Black malt soaps, frozen coffee crystals and aluminum tastes. Bitter rubs of green herbs and roots, awkwardly reminiscent of sarsaparilla. Quite dry in a burnt espresso, chemical and plastic way. Prickly, thin palate. Glaringly lacking in substance, but far from offensive. Thanks, John! nick76 (2684), Tampa, Florida, USA

The aroma is strong with toasted (almost burnt) dark malts, coffee, alcohol, and a little chocolate. The appearance is very dark brown with a tiny head. The flavor is just like the aroma and not weak at all. The palate is a tad thin but still well within acceptable limits. Overall a decent example of the style. On tap @ Brewery. Pours deep and dark with thin light brown head. Nice aroma, not too light like a lot of stouts. I smell lots of coffee, burnt malts, hints of smoke and sweet molasses. The flavor has lots of burnt to charred malts along with a healthy dose of coffee. Beyond midway some sweeter molasses type notes join to balance the dry burnt malts, coffee and dark chocolate. Nice flavor that keeps it interesting.

Very smokey taste with a generous amount of burnt malt. A little watery. Not bad at all. jcwattsrugger (5573), Florida and, New Jersey, USA
