Black in appearance; burgundy glow around the edges. Big tan head at first. Nice roasty-sweet nose. Thinnish at times, but flavors are really nice. Very roasted and a little toasted, with equal amounts of sweet and sour notes blended in. Hops complement really well, balancing things out and leaving a healthy bitterness in the finish. I enjoyed the extra dosing of hops, and found the beer rather tasty. Another good Dunedin.

Nice looking pint bottle. Very black,beer. Thin,creamy,khaki,head. Very roasty and hoppy aroma,lightly hoppy. Somewhat sticky,and thick,at the same time kind of watery. Chocolate,caramel,roasty,hoppy,flavors. This is one roasty bastard! Finish is very hoppy,lightly sweet,and roasty,smokey. Little watery,but good flavors. Thanks Bierbauch!

16oz Bottle No Freshness Date Poured quickly and produced no head just a thin film. Color is solid black with light just barely creeping through edges. Aroma of roasted malt and dark coffee. Body is on the thin side and finishes slightly dry. Flavor is raosted malt and a tad bitter. Surprisingly very drinkable. Overall a decent brew.

Smells like smoke! Stick your head in the charcoal grill and inhale - yeah, smokey smokey smokey. Even the grey/tan head reminds me of smoke. Taste is smokey roast - lots of espresso. Very dry and hoppy finish. My only complaint - palate was very thin. (Thanks Matta!)

Thanks to mabdoney for sending this out! Pours nearly pitch black with a medium tan head. Nose is bittersweet with dark chocolate and coffee being the two main aromas. Unique taste. There are some cocoa notes, along with a hoppiness and more coffee. Rich body. Smooth mouthfeel. Oily, bitter finish. Good stuff!

Bottle. Black color with a laced dark brown head. A strong roasted coffee aroma with an accent of chocolate. A nice hop balance in the flavor. Earthy. The coffee just pours over the mouth and leaves a satisfying finish. Not as rich as some stouts, but it hits long and hard in the flavor. Thanks to mabdoney for the trade.

1st of my Stouts of November: Thanks Mabdoney for this beer! Deep black hue with initial large tan head which quickly reduced to a small top, good lace, some oily apperance as well. Aroma hinted of burnt malts, smoky, caramel, bittersweet chocolate, molasses, coffee, aromatic fruity and grassy hops. Interesting taste combination of burnt and sweet malt versus a piney and fruity hop. Both play well off each other but still could use a bit more sublime complexity. The mouthfeel has an oily component but is also very carbonated. The finish hints of smoke and underlying bitterness. The finishing feel is a bit chalky and thinner bodied than expected. Overall this brew has some great potential, the taste needs to back up the aroma and have a more lush mouthfeel. Still, you could do much worse than this stout for sure, very drinkable.

2004 Batch: This years batch has far more substance to the palate. Very earthy big notes of peat and French Pressed coffee, Good Stuff!
This stout is dryer and more toasted than an albino lost in the Mojave Desert.

#176 ** This has got to be the best bottled brew that is made in Florida. Although a slight bit watery as far as stouts go, This Leonard Croon’s Old Mean Stout is an excellent and well-crafted beer. The appearance is a deep rich opaque black concoction, with a caramel colored lacing and small short-lived head. The aroma is roasty and chocolaty…. The flavor has bottomless and bittering notes of coffee and bakers’ chocolate, … very nice, the hop still shines through all the malt.
