Crude oil with a nice, toasty brown head. When swirling the brew, the head coats the side of the glass, gradually sloughing off in tan sheets. Nose smells like a combination of burnt wood and cappucino. First flavor is very roasty, mainly with coffee-ish malts. Finish begins to sweeten with a caramel tone, lenthening out with the roastiness to taste a bit like a toasted marshmallow. Nicely creamy and full, darn good palate. Nice stout, surprising from this little brewery. delacerveza (157), Florida, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 14, 2003 As black as beers get with a thin tan foamy cover. Good, complex roasted peat-malt aroma reminiscent of some imperial stouts minus the alcohol. Body is robust and flavorful. This is a very respectable dry stout. I'd have to say Dunedin is the best brewery in Florida. BBB63 (4271), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Nov 1, 2003 Updated: Nov 7, 20031st of my Stouts of November: Thanks Mabdoney for this beer! Deep black hue with initial large tan head which quickly reduced to a small top, good lace, some oily apperance as well. Aroma hinted of burnt malts, smoky, caramel, bittersweet chocolate, molasses, coffee, aromatic fruity and grassy hops. Interesting taste combination of burnt and sweet malt versus a piney and fruity hop. Both play well off each other but still could use a bit more sublime complexity. The mouthfeel has an oily component but is also very carbonated. The finish hints of smoke and underlying bitterness. The finishing feel is a bit chalky and thinner bodied than expected. Overall this brew has some great potential, the taste needs to back up the aroma and have a more lush mouthfeel. Still, you could do much worse than this stout for sure, very drinkable. Deep black color and a creamy mocha colored head. Roast malt in the aroma with additions of coffee, chocolate, and a hint of smokiness. The flavor is rich and dominated by slightly burnt roast malt flavors with a pleasant burnt malt finish. A Stout that is a little different and definately worth trying. yayforbeer (648), Orange Park, Florida, USA

Aroma is heavy on the chocolate and hops. This is a stout for stout drinkers. Not the least bit wimpy in flavor or hops. Chocolate and hops everywhere. Roasty, long bitter finish. Its big and tasty. Maybe not for everybody, but I enjoyed it. I can finally say I have had a Florida beer that had some character. I’m going back to the bottle shop for a couple more of these. Reminds me a bit of the Shipyard Blue Fin I had yesterday but richer, fuller, and a tad more sweet. A lot of coffee flavors, yes, but more; not totally deep roastiness. The pour is unusual in that you can tell its cloudiness right away. I am a sucker for this color brown head.
