This was a good trade! This Pale is a winner that starts off with a big creamy head riding on a beautiful burnished copper beer. Grapefruit hops balanced with a light malt in the aroma which is clean and refreshing and sets you up for the taste which is well balanced. It finishes with a slight bitterness that is just right. Balance is the word for this beer. Matt has chosen a good one to keep on hand in his ’fridge. And look Pippin, it comes in pints! ¾ (4999), Colorado, USA
| 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Apr 30, 2004 Dark copper color, nose of sweet malts - caramel. Flavor is a sharp burnt peanut and smoldering wood chips, very rough, but still needs something to balance the malty sweetness. atpayne (615), Zionsville, Indiana, USA
| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Apr 9, 2004 Thanks to Matta. Nice amber color with suspended yeast. The aroma was malty with carmel malts shining through and a sense of engilsh style hops. The bitterness took residence in the mouth and held a tangy feeling. It also had a nice dry feling. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 9, 2004 Medium amber in color. Nice mouthfeel. Soft and medium-bodied with a multi-leveled carbonation. Malts were tasty: lightly toasted, a little doughy, slightly nutty, and a little sweet. Hops complemented well, balancing things out. Grassy and herbal with a pinch of spiciness. Grapefruit and lemon hang out on the roof of the mouth and look down on the tongue-dwelling bitterness. Overall, nicely balanced and nicely flavored. I didn't know Florida had it in it! Good beer! ... I just read some other ratings, and it sounds like this stuff degrades quickly. Thanks for the fresh bottle, matta! | 2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 7/20 | Mar 13, 2004 Blech. Nose harshly bitter, no real fruit or pine or anything, just unpleasant medicinal bitterness. Has a flavor akin to cheap whiskey of some sort, a bit of nuttiness just overpowered by a nasty medicinal kick. Not a good thing. Drew (2410), Kent, Ohio, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 25, 2004 I enjoyed this one a lot. Started off with a fresh citrus hop nose. Body was a glowing amber, white fluffy head, nice lacing. Nice beady, lightly sweet malts. Hops are interesting - 2 distinct layers of flavor - a woody warm hop along the sides, and a big citrus, orange juice hop on top of that - I loved that flavor. I'd like to see this one pumped up a bit to make it an IPA. (another winner from Matta!) npdempse (931), St. Petersburg, Florida, USA
| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Feb 4, 2004 Amber, small white head. Some grassy hops in the nose, overridden by odd buttery diacetyl notes. Bitter, buttery flavor that has a slight cheesiness like stale hops. cb (809), Wheat Ridge, Colorado, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Jan 13, 2004 Meaty, heavily hopped wheat ale. Robust, with upfront sappy flavor and a dry finish. Autumn leaf color. I really believe this is an underrated beer and I would like to have more at some point. Hint, hint. Thanks to matta for sending it to me!
