notalush (2627), Denver, Colorado, USA Jun 24, 2008 Effervescent, hazy straw beer, with a soapy, well-sustained head - somewhat musty, earthy aroma, with apparent pils malt, light hop spiciness, some citrus tanginess - quite peppery, grassy, and herbal up front, followed by a relatively high sweetness for the style - this is followed by some herbal, tea-like character, and then some white pepper - the alcohol is completely masked - finishes with honey and wildflowers (lavender) - more like a spicy trippel due to its sweetness, but still pretty nice. basewars (144), Albany, New York, USA Jun 23, 2008 Pours hazy yellow, with a lot of carbonation. Smells of yeast, which is visible in the glass. Tastes of bread and fruit. Something else in there though that makes this beer stand out. It’s smooth, no tart. Don’t know what it is, but I’m sure I’ll try it again. tripelthreat (75), Soquel, California, USA Jun 18, 2008 A tall, dense head develops atop a yellow-gold body in a Duvel tulip. Thick and sweet with some funky, yeasty notes taking a back seat. The alcohol is pretty up front and builds. Some bitterness is in the background trying to fight its way through the sweet flavors and alcohol but ultimately loses out. Nice enough, but not preferable to Veille Provision. kiefdog (1534), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 16, 2008 75cl bottle from Willow Bend Liquors (Tampa, FL). Pours a cloudy caramel-golden color with a thick, creamy, three-finger head that settles quickly but provides ample lacing throughout consumption. Smells strongly of spice, bread, yeast, straw, fresh grass and citrus peel. Clearly visible particulates. Medium-bodied ale with a somewhat creamy mouthfeel. Flavor is slightly of honey, caramel, and spice with larger notes of bread, straw and yeast. Somewhat quick finish. Alcohol seems to come through more as the beer warms. darn1207 (528), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Jun 10, 2008 corked bottle from liquor loft. hazy gold color. thick pillowy white head with lacing. fruit, spice, floral, yeast in the smell. candy citrus up front then quickly bitter hops. tastes salty. fairly carbonated. I don’t know how much of this I could drink, but it’s interesting. K-7 heavy (805), Split, Croatia Jun 10, 2008 07/06 0.75 l bottle from belgianshop.com, 2007. vintage. Poured golden body with medium white head. Pretty nice aroma, as one could expect, banana yeasty with orange and some herbal spices. Flavor is much fuller in body than other saison I recently tried, but still not quite good, very bitter with nothing too much really there. Alcohol is felt, but not too much and it’s dangerously drinkable. Bitter-sourish finish. Fine beer, but I’m not impressed again and I was very generous at rates. ogivlado (3036), Zagreb, Croatia Jun 10, 2008 Bottled(750ml). -Courtesy of heavy (huge thanks!!!), shared with him and Doggythedog.
Nice murky orange coloured, huge white head, spicy yeasty nose. The taste is very fruity, yeasty and spicy with strong alcohol presence. Cidery like finish with long-lasting sweet apple notes in the aftertaste.
mcbackus (725), Merritt Island, Florida, USA Jun 9, 2008 botle 2007:pours a great looking white big foamy head that is thick and stays along for the ride. som esoapy lacing, this sits atop a cloudy hay golden colour with the tiniest bubbles that are barley seen. aroma is wondeful full of belgian yeast and spices, a good amount of wheat malt with good clove and touches of banana fruit. some floral honey plays through the nose also, a slight tart sour comes in at the end and completes this great aroma. the paplte is som creamy and smooth and flows very well. the flavour is full of rich belgian yeast, plenty of spices and plenty of wheat malt. soem slight sourness come out and the finishes is honey and barn hay, that dries out nicely on the back of the palate. great saison.
