Medium sized white head, good retention and lacing. Clear gold body. Nose is earthy, lightly musty, yeast and faint citrus. Light body, prickly carbonation and dry on the palate. Yeasty earthy flavors with some nice grassy hop notes, lightly toasty malts, citrus. Dry, spicey finish. Enjoyable session brew.

Pour is a nice cloudy yellow. Aroma is light, malty, biscuity, some floral hops, chewy. Surprisingly "there" for a beer so small. Great flavor, very pure, dirty yeast, perfectly on point for a saison while showing absolutely no alcohol — no surprise there, really, but it’s still quite wonderful. There is a bit of a syrupy pils malt here that goes down quite well. This is a lovely beer, perfect for a summer day, or those drinking opportunities where you don’t want to get totally loaded.

Bottle in Monks Cafe, Philadelphia, 15-11-08 in the company of Loz, Casey and Traci. This was a large bottle that Casey got and was labelled under its alternative name of Du Pont Avril Biere de Table. Pours a light hazy lemon colour with a white frothy head. My first taste was just a tad dissapointing as it came across a little cardboardy and even soapy washing up liquid but I perservered wondering whther the subtleties of this beer were still being drowned out by the previous beer, the Victory Baltic Thunder. I started to really quite enjoy this the lemonyness softened and whilst I still got some soapiness it wasn’t unpleasant, starting to become more yeasty, fruity and more intriguing with each mouthful, by the end of my glass I wanted more and agree with the previous rater maybe a bottle to ones self would have done this more justice.

In short: A highly (very highly) drinkable tart and farmhouse Saison.
How: Bottle 750ml, brought up to Montreal by my buddy puzzl, thanks a ton Andy. Consumed fresh, a week after Andy purchased it
The look: Cloudy yellow-blonde body topped by a medium white head
In long: Nose is unmistakably Dupont, typical Dupont farmhouse character. The aroma is similar to Dupont Forest but even more intensively farmhouse. Taste brings a surprising tartness to the game with an almost Berliner-Weisse sensation. Crisp, hay, pineapples, light creamy honey, wild farmhouse yeast, . This beer combines the delicious farmhouse character of the Moinette Biologine (Forest) and the high drinkability qualities of the Dupont Vieille Provision. Probably my second favourite Dupont after Vieille Provision. Fully satisfying body, at 3.5%!!!! I can’t believe the most low scores on this one. Please people, stop sharing a 3.5% masterpiece in tasting sessions, drink the bottle that’s the only way to appreciate a beer like this. This is a fully satisfying beer, I would have never guessed 3.5%. I hereby declare Dupont Biolégère (aka Dupont Avril) the most underrated beer on ratebeer. Finally something to say at customs when I’m asked if I have anything to declare.

Bottle. This pours a hazy blonde with a pillowy white three finger head that leaves streaks of lacing all over the glass. Lemony nose, earthy spiciness, grassy hops, doughy yeast aromas, touch of cloves all over a nice base of toasted maltiness. In flavor, lightly malty, earthy hops, citrus, touch of acidity, peppery nice slightly bitter end. Very light and active, nice carb, a touch of dry in the finish. My notes say, "wow, this is good" but I think this is shorthand for incredibly drinkable and flavorful at under 4%, wow.

Rating from a 750ml bottle of Dupont Avril: It pours a slightly hazed yellow body with a sustained, creamy head. There were a bunch of swirlies in the glass that settled out after a while, a bit of a surprize because, if the cork is to believed, this is a 2008 bottle. The aroma was warm bread seasoned with herbs and grasses. Very lively, carbonated mouthfeel. The flavor was pretty reflective of the nose and had the addition of a floral bitterness. Dry finish. Very refreshing and drinkable.

Pat’s Liquors, Porter, IN
