strowlands8 (75), Ontario, Canada Aug 29, 2009 Really enjoyable the bitterness is not overwhelming and the hoppyness is delicious. Really enjoyes this beer one of my favourites, especially in the style. kiefdog (1567), Tampa, Florida, USA Aug 25, 2009 On tap at Beer Bistro (Toronto, ON). Pours a clear dark amber with one finger white head. Aroma is sweet and floral with notes of pine, grapefruit, honey, light caramel, some floral esters. Flavor is sweet and floral with notes of grapefruit, light citrus, pine, caramel, honey, light spice. Generally medium body with a pleasing hoppy finish. zebracakes (1214), Washington DC, USA Aug 22, 2009 On tap at Cloak and Dagger in Toronto, 07.12.09 Clear orange, off white head. Aroma is kiwi, tangerine hoppy. Flavor has a decent hops bite, but judging from the name, I would have expected more kick. Dickinsonbeer (3434), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Jul 25, 2009 Tap at Caeli Cottage in Toronto. Pours a light amber- deep copper with a thin but lasting white head. Aroma is sharp nutty toasted malts caramel- crystal malts and light fruitiness with a ctirus and orange zest light pine hop kick. Flavor is hoppy, a bit resinous with some pine with a toffee and caramel maltinss, toast and a gritty hoppy bitterness in the end. I liked drinking the Hop Head IPA a bit more just because it was easier to drink- this was a bit too tacky in the end. Solid though. CharlesDarwin (1823), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA Jul 9, 2009 On tap at the beer bistro. Pours a vibrant clear orange-amber, with a nice white rim. Smell is juicy, dank, hop resin and California pine woods round. Inviting. Flavor is just plain hop dank. Wow. This has serious hop flavor. Strong, up front, and insanely fresh. Tending towards the British hop flavor characters, but still with tons of dripping resinous character. Wow. A base of caramel lays under for support. Long finish in dry, cascade-like hops. Nice.
Listigovers (96), Ontario, Canada Jun 27, 2009 On tap. Quite dark appearance, although not the darkest IPA I’ve seen (that honour goes to Mike Duggan IPA) and very hoppy. Hop addict doesn’t joke around with it’s name. Sadly, it’s slightly unbalanced, malt is not a forbidden fruit in an IPA! ladnewton (200), London, Greater London, England Jun 15, 2009 Draught at C’est What?, Toronto, Canada on 10th June 2008. Exquisitely hoppy, pleasant mouthfeel and bitter aftertaste. In the style of an American Pale Ale, again compares well with Dark Star APA. JesseM (661), Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, Canada Jun 10, 2009 On tap at Volo (long and strange story about how I ended up briefly at Volo today, my first visit). Taps a nice deep copper-orange, medium white-cap. Awesome piny citrus hoppy nose. Flavour is delciously well balanced, very nice malt bakcbone, but the hops steal the show. Good astringent feel on the back of the tongue, but not at all dry. Did I have the same beer some other people who’ve rated it here had? How could you not consider this a ’real ’ IPA? This was absolutely a spectacular pint. Fruity esters as well, in fact the beer as a whole kind of reminds me of Fuzzy Peach candy in a very pleasant way. Outside of extremely fresh Grand River Curmudgeon, this is the best Ontario-brewed IPA I’ve ever had.
