Orangey copper amber, fast fading head. Moderate orange and tangerine citrus notes in the hoppy aroma. Pleasant orange bitterness is fairly well balanced with malt and resin notes. (7+). Slightly more full than average palate. (3+) Not the highest scoring on my official score sheet, but possibly the one I would be most likely to have more of on this day. 7-8/3/7+/3+/16 - 3.8 <P> Volo Cask Situation, Cask #6 Hazy golden amber body. Interesting orangey funky aroma is oddly fruity – apricot? Astringent lemon rind aroma is not unpleasant but kind of strange. Bitter almost astringent ambiguous citrus is a bit rough and discordant at first – like non-optimally aged citrus fruit. Average palate is just a bit too flat. Tried this again the next day and found it to be much more palatable. Orange citrus comes out much more fully in both the aroma and flavour, and better rounded out in all areas. 5-6/3/5/3/10-12 <P> May 2006 Draft. Orange dark amber body with a small off white head. Sweet orange citrus aroma with light malt underneath. Big hoppy flavour is briefly mildly citrusy but quickly gives wat to lightly astringent very resiny green hops. Average palate is a touch light but adds to its drinkability on the patio at Volo. Decent, but more citrus or malt to complement the not so delicate hops would boost it higher. 6/3/7/3/15 - 3.4

Tap at Caeli Cottage in Toronto. Pours a light amber- deep copper with a thin but lasting white head. Aroma is sharp nutty toasted malts caramel- crystal malts and light fruitiness with a ctirus and orange zest light pine hop kick. Flavor is hoppy, a bit resinous with some pine with a toffee and caramel maltinss, toast and a gritty hoppy bitterness in the end. I liked drinking the Hop Head IPA a bit more just because it was easier to drink- this was a bit too tacky in the end. Solid though.

Draught at Volo. Pours a clear golden-orange with a small diminishing white head. Nice aroma of piney and resiny hops along with some citrus and caramel malt in the back. Great hoppy flavour, also piney and resiny, with some malt and fruit in the middle and a nice bitter finish -- very tasty. Light to medium body. This is a great session IPA, I hope to have many pints of this at Volo -- kudos to Durham!

On tap at C’est What? OUTSTANDING! Lots of pine and citrus grapefruit aromas. The intense hop flavor is great. This seems like a much stronger beer than the 5.45 ABV belies. Long lingering tongue drying palate.

On tap at Volo. Aroma of piney, citrus hops, with some malt too. Light copper, small custard head. Taste starts off very hoppy, a fine malty backbone soon presents itself. Medium bodied, well balanced between the sweet malt and it’s appreciated bitterness. Really fine example. Kudos to Ralph for inspiring the brewer!

In short: A glass of citrusy hop juice. Simple but highly drinkable and highly refreshing

The look: Clear copper body topped by a very small off-white head.
In long: Hoppy nose as expected on the citrusy side of American hops. Taste is citrusy hops wall to wall with some pine-cone juice here and there. Inexpressive malts that provide an adequate body without contributing much to the flavour spectrum. Very juicy and refreshing beer. Smooth carbonation. Sharp bitterness of medium intensity. Couldn’t resist ordering it when I was that pump handle and was rather disappointed to get it in a pint that had to be orally ingested. Teaser.

En fût. Verre de 10 oz dégusté chez Black Tomato (Ottawa, ONT). Arôme: Odeur d’houblons floraux et de pamplemousse. Apparence: La couleur est ambrée avec une faible densité de bulle. Présence d’un mince col mousseux et d’une large dentelle sur le verre. Saveur: Goût d’agrumes et de pins avec une pointe de malt. Durée moyenne de l’arrière goût. Palette: Le corps est moyen avec une texture légèrement huileuse. Moyenne effervescence en bouche. Présence d’amertume en arrière goût. (Rating #1334)

Draught @ Victory. Amber, not much head. Nutty malt, some perfume. Light quaffable mouthfeel. Dry. GREAT hops. Fruity, lingering aftertaste. Good IPA.
