RaphaelN (195), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Jun 27, 2008 On tap at Volo. A big surprise of a beer. I personally enjoyed this one very much. Aroma was very sweet with bananas and cloves on the nose. Flavour was similar with sweet spices; cardamom, cumin, cloves. This drank like Denison’s Weissbier with a twist. Great job on this one Durham! mabel (2530), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 6, 2008 [1337-20080510] Cask. Orange doughy yeast aroma has mild light fruit notes. Hazy, light brown orange body with a medium-lasting creamy white head and long lacing rings. Light fruity dough yeast flavour has a nice long subtle aftertaste. Medium body is smooth and creamy with a mildly bitter aftertaste. Really impressive, partly due to being on cask, but an excellent specimen regardless.
(@ Volo; Toronto, ON) Beershine (2677), Hue, Vietnam Sep 18, 2008 Draught @ Victory pub. Hazy pale golden, some head and lacing. Tangerine intense in the aroma. Soft, velvety mouthfeel. Intensely fruity and juicy. Tangerine again and other ripe, sweet citrus fruits. Simple, fruity, slightly sweet wiht a dry finish. Nice juicy quaffable mouthfeel. Very fruity, almost too much so but some herbs emerge later like chamomile making it refreshing and unique. tupalev (2605), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 11, 2008 On cask at Volo. Cloudy yellow, small white head. Nice yeasty aroma, pleasant. Taste shows promise - there is a nice base of flavour here, lots of banana, yeast and some lemon, but I found that there was a buttery aspect to it that distracted. I would also like a lighter more carbonated body for the style, I think that would really accentuate the solid base of flavours here. I’ll chalk these slight detractions to sampling it is cask form - I always appreciate good fresh Ontario cask beer, especially from these guys, but I think this style would be better served on tap. Thanks for another new offering Durham. DerWeg (748), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jun 9, 2008 Updated: Jul 23, 2009* July 2009 re-rate * sampled at BeerBistro, I swear this is now a better beer, with nice pear-lemon-spice balance in nose and taste, and great light (but not watery) feel. It’s really nice! ** . I’m the make-or-break score today huh? Oh well. here’s the scoop - draught at Volo. Pours a slightly cloudy amber with slight head and fine carbonation. Light aroma of yeast and citrus. Tastes slightly of apple and pear, is round, sweet, fruity On the light and refreshing side. I do like that it is not copycat. Not excellent and not bad either. * NB * the nearby smell of baking cheese was distracting for everything I drank on the Patio, LOL! blankboy (3157), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 12, 2008 Cask at Volo. Pours a cloudy dark gold with an average size diminishing creamy white head. Decent lacing. Aroma of butterscotch, yeast and light spices -- a little to butterscotchy, almost like diacytl. Refreshing flavour, quite easy to drink, perhaps a tad watery. Yeasty with caramel malt and spices. Averege bodied. This one is hard for me to pin down -- I do like it and it’s easy to drink, but it’s almost a bit too light for me and the butterscotch distracts. Still, I’d have it again and I’d like to try it on draught. tomthompson89 (1456), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Aug 26, 2008 Had at Beer bistro Staff party. cloudy yellow orange color. decent bubly head, nose is citrus and yeasty, some cloves in there, flavor was fruity and lighty with a little yeast and spicy as well. Very refreshing. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 19, 2008 2008-05-10. Lightly golden pastel yellow body with a modest creamy white head and great lacing that coats the side. (4+) Very fruity yeasty aroma, light diacytel notes or something similar. (6+) Similar flavours, fruity yeast reminds me of something I can’t place. Fruity, curious to know what yeast was used, it does not seem like a standard wit-ester profile. Average palate. Mabel liked it a lot, I was underwhelmed. Agree with the general sentiment that it would be better serviced on draught. Will be interesting to see where future iterations go with this. Cask at Volo
