Commercial Description:
Well-built and designed particularly for those looking for a stronger beer sensation, La Torra ambrée, best drunk at 6 to 8°C, has more body and a higher alcohol content at 6% Alc./vol. than its blond sister (5.5% alc./vol.). Flavoured with Myrtle (a wild berry from the Corsican maquis, picked in the heart of winter), it combines a subtle sweetness with the legendary strength of Corsica.

A clear red beer with a nice orange head. The aroma is very spicy with notes of berries, lemon, and grass. The flavor is very sweet - like a sodapop with strong notes of juniper berries. The end is quite dry.

Bottled. Clear amber colour. Lovely aroma of rosemary and juniper. Sweet with clean, rounded mouthfeel. A beautifully spiced highly average beer.

Beautiful amber color. Strong aroma of caramel mixed with myrtle (rosemary-like, minty), that I don’t like too much… Good body strength, some malty sweetness, combined with the herbs and bitter enough. Heartless, but drinkable.

Botled, bought in France. Ugh! Tastes like an alcopop. Sweet, vodka based drink with a herbal bitterness to balance things out. But according to the label on the bottle this is all beer. Hmm. OK. This is drinkable, and I do tend to enjoy these things - it’s just that I was expecting something more serious and beer like. The only brewery on Corsica itself is Pietra - and they also use herbs and suchlike in their brewing. I suppose this is an attempt to capture some of pietra’s market. Hmm. Some coffee aroma. Hmm. Some interesting chcolate flavours in here, but the whole thing is so much an alcopop that any nice features are overwhelmed by the plastic mouthfeel and the artifical construction.

I poured this beer with great curiosity: a brew claiming it was made with myrtle, how original! The aroma wasn’t bad and actually brought dreams of South European shores. The head was middle-high and did not last very long on top of a dark gold body. This beer is very well-balanced: it is a challenge to brew a beer with exotic herbs without destroying the taste, but the combination was successful in this case. A nice and original experience it was. Original too, the fact that this "Corsican" beer is actually brewed in the far North of France, that is was bought in Denmark in a store owned by a Czech, drunk by an expat Frenchman and rated (as first ever) on an American web site. Oh well, the world is a big and exciting place - Skål and à votre santé! (Sorry, I don’t know how to say it in Corsican)
