25 oz bottle, Stateline Liquors. Pours a crystal clear dark gold to amber colored body under a foamy off-white one finger head. Some patchy sticky lacing. The aroma is lightly fruity and sweet with grassy hay like notes. Some light grainy toasted malt. Really smells more like a regular Amber Ale than a BdG. The flavor is softly malty with a little bit of farmhouse funkiness. Finishes dry with a light yeast influence. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with really prickly fizzy carbonation. Finishes with a drying carbonic bite. Overall, not a whole lot of character to this one. Really confused why this one is completely filtered, seems like that’s not the intent of a Bière de Garde.

Deep mahogany color, light head. Very unique flavor that I would describe as chestnut. Excellent. Too bad I have to come all the way to Paris to try this.

Bottle sampled. Pours orange copper, with a decent size khaki colored head. Aroma of caramel, sweetness, and spices. The flavor is sweet, caramel, spices, and finishes with bitterness and honey.

12oz bottle...Nice copper amber hue with creamy diminishing tan head, not much lacing, malty smell and taste, lightly carbonated, a little sweet caramel, a little hoppy. Good balance. Alcohol % listed higher than tastes. All in all slightly above average. Have not had too many French beers.

Pours with a thick off-white head on top of a hazy orange body. This one has a malty, musty aroma. There is also a faint horse blanket aroma suggesting some brettanomyces action. Sweet, profoundly malty taste with some mild lingering bitterness expected for the style. Notes of caramel, nouget and marzipan. Highly carbonated with a lean mouthfeel. A great beer.

I was not tremendously moved by this beer. It was very mild mannered in aroma, but had an unpleasant overly malty sweet flavor I did not care for. I can’t say I’d recommend this for that reason. Its appearance was pretty good, with an amber color with a macro-looking head composed of tiny uniformly sized bubbles. It didn’t smell like anything. Flavor was very malty sweet, and a bit unpleasant.

Bottled. Dark copper colour. Low head. Sweet malty caramel, almond paste and alcohol in aroma. Dusty malt flavour with bit sweetness and tad licorice and dried fruits plus vanilla. Alcohol shines through with some bitterness. Still, very soft mouthfeel.
