Poured a hazy orangey ambersimilar to iced tea. Finger thick dense beigeish head. Color cleared after several minutes. Aroma was of sweet malt and some candy sugar. Tasted of sweet malt, candied fruit, subtle hints of almonds if swirled around the mouth, dryish finish that disappeared as the bottle warmed. Left the lips slightly sticky. I’m guessing from my first taste of this batch 10 months ago that this beer is pretty much peaking out. Got a couple bottles saved for the winter holidays. BBB63 (4238), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jul 20, 2004 750 Bottle: Clear amber hue with a frothy white head and good lace. The aroma has notes of taosted malts, apple, pear, almond, hazelnut, floral hops, and eathy yeast esters. The taste starts twangy with lots of fruits and a zesty yeast undertone. Nutty and woody on the finish with just a snap of bitters to keep it balanced. Some acidic nature lingers well into the evening. The feel is crisp and lively, earthy. A good beer and worth a try but not among the best of genre. sloth (1678), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA

| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 10, 2004 Amber with steady bubbling producing a lasting compact tan head. Toasted almond like aroma, with a very earthy, restrained spice to the flavor. Matched very well with the garlic pesto chicken and cheese ravioli dish. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jun 21, 2004 bottled at brewtopia - a pretty standard biere de garde - some caramel going on, but mostly grassy and grainy - nothing stand-out, glad I had it at a fest instead of dishing the money out for a whole bottle on my own. | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jun 18, 2004 Pours almost copper with a small tanned head. Aroma is sweet with some hints of caramel, light spice, and malt. Bit of roastiness as well. Taste is nicely hopped with more of the malt coming through. There’s a hint of cocoa on the tongue but also an odd cardboard or paper-like taste towards the finish. Not bad though, mind you. A bit effervescent on the palate and the finish is bittersweet. Good beer.
