Moderate white head atop a stagnant, hazy tea-colored body. Very earthy nose in both minty bitterness and sugary malt, also some lightly sour cork. Heavy malt note in the flavor, some light grassy bitterness and yeast. Not very nuanced or balanced, nor is it that enjoyable.

Sample at the Eurostash II tasting on 12/12/09: Canned version. Pours a slightly hazed orange-gold color with a medium off-white head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of pale malt and floral hops. Medium body with flavors of sweet fruit, malt and mild hops. The finish is bready malt with a fruity aftertaste. Average overall.

A: Poured on tap at Novare Res Bier Cafe. Average-to-large sized, white head that slowly diminished to 1/4-finger. Body is dark orange with some haziness. Fair lacing left on the sides of the glass. S: Interesting aroma... you get your sweetness with some fruity scents, and a tart, sour aroma as well. T: Tastes very much like it smells... starts with a fruity sweetness, but finishes very slightly sour and dry. Overall, very smooth to drink. M: Light-bodied, creamy texture, with average carbonation. D: Solid across the board. Quite enjoyable.

750 ml bottle. Appearance was light brown, slightly cloudy, big tan head with only slight lacing. Smell was sweet caramel and butterscotch. Hint of vanilla, apples and nutmeg. Taste started sweet and stayed that way, good malt content, but could use more balance. Nice enough, nothing too complex, but not bad at all.

75cl corked bottle, as shown. Medium, soapy off-white head that collapses quickly. Good retention. Clear, deep amber colour. Caramelized apple and yeast on the nose. Medium to heavy-bodied, thick, creamy mouth feel. Taste, again, is of caramelized apple - with roasted malt to balance the sweet notes. Some sweetish herbs, too. Dry, bitter finish and medium bitter, slightly alcoholic after taste. This is a quietly impressive French "ale" that reveals its subtler notes only after a while. Increasingly complex and heavy as you keep drinking. Quite sessionable, given the unobtrusive bitter notes, but definitely not bland. Nice biere de garde.
