Commercial Description:
With this fine, malty ale, the Brewery Duyck continues the long tradition in Northern France of cooking up a special brew in the first months of the year to celebrate the longed-for end to winter’s cold and darkness. Bière de Mars, or "March Beer" - so named for the season in which the first bottles were usually ready to drink - was made from the best ingredients of the last growing season, and was heartier and more flavorful, meant to be laid down and drunk for many months. The chief aroma is of grain, in this case France’s famed barley and wheat malt, which is balanced on the palate by the refreshing and bitter fruitiness of great Alsatian hops. Intended to be served chilled.

Lightly golden color with a taller off-white head. First sniff impession... are you sure this is not a malt liquor? Grains, white grapes, light grass and bit of honey in the nose. Not bad, just not a Bière de Garde scent. Grainy start with a bit of earth in the backdrop. Middle has a bit of alcohol that carries into the finish and linger. For a brew listed as 5.4% that is not necessarily a good thing. Some sharp bitterness in the finish as well. A earthy floor malt component that sticks in the linger. I see that the description indicates to be served chilled, perhaps cellar temperature is not forgiving for this brew. Low strength, but euro strong lager flavors. Just doesn’t work for me.

Bottle. Pours with a small, white head and a hazed yellow body with bubbles rising. Head recedes and leaves acceptable lace. Aroma of skunk, toast, butter, pear, caramel and green pepper. Taste is dry with a mild or neutral fruity yeast with a element of buttered bread and light alcohol. Easy to drink. Watery mouthfeel and light-ish carbonation

this one stinks. so skunked, i had to walk away from it to let it air out a bit. other notes are sweet grain cereal and a light flowery something. extremely pale and extremely carbonated. more sweetness than i like here, the floral tastes is not enough to match it. banana bread and honey linger in this.
