Commercial Description:
The festive season just wouldn’t be the same without this speciality beer whose arrival is always long-awaited. The tradition of Christmas beers is particular to northern Europe. In the years following the Second World War, the breweries used to sell an original, richer and stronger beer at the same price as year-round beers: this was their gift to their customers. The Duycks have perpetuated this custom by creating a special beer sold at the usual price. Produced with more malt than Jenlain Ambrée (3 different types of malt made from French grown barley and 3 varieties of the most aromatic hops from Alsace), this top fermented, unpasteurized beer, best served at between 6 and 8°C, has a rich amber glow, a denser head and stronger alcohol content (6.8% alcohol by volume). Darker than the traditional amber beer, its torrefied undertones are reminiscent of flowers and caramel. And the 2002 Christmas beer had a hint of orange.

Bottle. Very interesting beer. This is the beer version of a Grand Marnier. It has aromas of orange and caramel. The flavor profile has a very distinct orange characteristic with some alcohol hotness, that really reminds me of Grand Marnier. It is also a bit sweet and hence a tad cloying when it warms up. But a very intriguing beer.

Bottle. High and long lasting creamy off-white head leaving nice curtains. Beautifyl clear copper body. Sweet malty aroma with caramel and a good deal of oranges. Mild and sweet caramel with no other special charecteristics. For a christmas beer my expectations are higher and I consider this beer relatively boring with a low carbonation, a short aftertaste, no spices, nothing special.

Bottle in Menton, 2006. Amber beer. Lots of orange added to it. It seems like their regular amber beer, with a decent malt flavor and an earthiness there as well. Good hopping. It is nice, because it starts with a good beer, although I think the spicing and orange addition are a bit overdone. With food, it became less noticeable and much better balanced though. Interesting, but the orange is way overdone.

Bottle from super saver. Pretty sure this was not a fresh release. Hazy amber body with a 2 finger tan head. Overripe fruit, spices, honey. Very thin mouthfeel. I didnt finish this one or my notes. I kept tasting moth in it.

poured on tap at papago... hazy caramel brown with a small cooked cream colored head. really sweet malty aroma mixes in some honey, brown sugar, a bit of dust and some grassiness. luckily the palate is not as sweet as the aroma made it seem... cinnamon spiciness, cooked orange peel, caramel, a nice dryness mid palate with a mildly bittered finish (yeast or spice, idk). medium body. dryness really keeps the slick mouth feel interesting...

Pour is a nice dark ambber with a average whtie head. Aroma is deffiantly bready malt with some spice. Almost like gingerbread. Flavor is a bit of a letdown. Mosty watery with some hints of spice and sugar. Nothing really special about this and Nothing that puts me in the mood for x-mas.

750 ml bottle, corked and caged, from John’s Marketplace in Portland, OR. Label seems to indicate production in 2006. Excellent light mahogany color with a decent off-white head. Medium+ body with creamy carbonation. Aroma is sweetly bready with a touch of orange. Flavor is mild caramel with citrus zest in a mild way. It’s all very smooth. The finish is slightly sweet, but there is some bitter (could be orange zest). As time goes on, I imagine floral notes - could be orange florality. It’s a very nice ale.

Golden amber color with a medium head. Aroma is bready and somewhat sweet. Flavor is of bread and honey with a hint of yeast. Nice overall BDG, but nothing spectacular.
